Job Details
This SAL role is an ideal position for a current upperclassman student, recent graduate or graduate-level student weighing their career options in STEAM-related fields, education, organizational and nonprofit management, sociology, and/or psychology. This is also a great opportunity for a candidate to explore career interests and also serve the community supporting Atlanta Public Schools most historical cluster of schools. This part-time position will allow the candidates the opportunity to learn and be engaged in many conversations around educational reform, as the cluster of schools served by Raising Expectations (RE) is ever-evolving. Finally, the SAL role provides the opportunity to use one's life and college experience to impact the lives of students residing in an under-served and under-resourced community.
RESPONSIBILITIES (TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
- Guide strategic tutors as they implement STEAM-focused material into tutoring sessions
- Develop rich, interdisciplinary, STEAM lessons and hands-on activities
- Prepare materials and supplies required for program operation
- Supervise volunteers in the implementation of diverse tactics to teach STEAM concepts to youth while providing mentoring and tutoring support
- Develop and monitor participant learning plans to ensure programmatic goals are being met
- Lead student welcome and dismissal procedure
- Maintain student academic files showcasing work accomplished/completed
- Use resources and research to ensure that lessons are hands-on, project-based, and increase STEAM awareness for our students
- Ensure a student-of-the-week is identified and recognized in each RE space
- Manage assigned student engagement and participation in RE-sanctioned activities
- Provide support for organizational administrative functions
- Manage and lead the implementation of 'Raising Expectations' Behavioral Modification Model'
- Collect, analyze, and report student level data
- Provide cross-program programmatic support
- Communicate with all stakeholders about Raising Expectations' programs and partners
- Assist with student recruitment and family engagement activities
- Attend and supervise community service and/or enrichment activities (average of one to two Saturdays or after-hours activities per month)
- Complete designated classroom maintenance tasks daily and site maintenance as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree (must at least be currently in progress as a junior or above; completed preferred)
- Able to administer programs with high standards
- Prior experience leading youth development programs
- Prior teaching experience is a plus
- Comfortable working with children in grades 5-12
- Pays attention to detail, flexible, and willing to assist with program developmental and expansion efforts
- Comfortable utilizing web-based collaborative and project management software
- Enjoys working with and has high expectations of youth
- Willing to learn and develop new skills
- Possesses excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Takes initiative and effective multi-tasker
- Reliable/dependable
- Generates value-added suggestions
- Self-motivated, driven leader
- Possesses strong emotional regulation skills
• Raising Expectations Main Site Commitment: Monday through Thursday 2:00pm – 7:00pm; Friday 1:00pm - 5:00pm; average of one to two Saturdays or after-hours activities per month for training, community service projects, and/or enrichment activities
• Raising Expectations @Promise Site Commitment: Monday through Friday 3:00 pm-7:00 pm; average of one to two Saturdays per month for training purposes at main site as needed
