Job Details
Manage all aspects of VSG’s food inventory procurement, controls, and distribution, including pickup, receipt, storage, and distribution of food to veterans in need. Trains and manages volunteers to ensure that daily client needs are met. Embraces VSG’s core value to serve those in need with kindness and compassion.
Responsibilities:
Maintain adequate food supply to provide the best quality food for veterans within budget:
Order and receive food and validate invoices from food bank
Pickup, receive, and record food donations
Stock food pantry and ensure all food is sorted and stored in a safe and sanitary manner
Inventory food monthly and provide required reports.
Work with area grocery stores to increase food pick-ups from stores.
Utilize FIFO (first in, first out) inventory practices to ensure food quality and minimize waste.
Organize and oversee food distribution process with help of volunteers.
Orient volunteers to food available and tasks to be done to prepare for food distributions.
Manage client parking and entry/exit from pantry with the help of other VSG staff and volunteers.
Organize packing of boxes to be distributed on days food pantry is not open.
Implement food pantry safety policies and procedures as enforced by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, and USDA. Attend staff and committees and meetings
