South Fork Conservancy – Executive Director

South Fork Conservancy is a nonprofit, 501-C-3 organization dedicated to restoring, connecting, and protecting the natural landscapes along the South Fork of Peachtree Creek. Through community partnerships and innovative conservation efforts, we preserve and enhance this vital green space to support native wildlife, enable recreational access, and foster ecological resilience for future generations.

Position Summary:
The Executive Director (ED) is the Chief Executive of South Fork Conservancy. The ED is responsible for implementation of the organization’s strategic operations (established with the Board of Directors), including its partnerships and community engagement. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is instrumental in executing the mission of the Conservancy by leading initiatives to enhance environmental stewardship, strengthen relationships with stakeholders, and advance trail and restoration projects.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy

  • Execute the organization’s vision and mission, ensuring alignment with long-term goals.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Cultivate a strong, collaborative team culture centered on the Conservancy’s mission and values.

Fundraising and Development

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to support the organization’s ongoing work, growth, and program expansion
  • Oversee all fundraising efforts, including capital campaigns, major gifts, grants, annual campaigns, and sponsorships.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, foundations, and partners to secure sustainable funding.

Partnerships and Community Engagement

  • Act as the primary spokesperson for South Fork Conservancy, representing the organization in public forums and media.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, nonprofits, local businesses, and community leaders.
  • Engage and inspire the community through information and education programs, events, and volunteer opportunities.  

Program Management

  • Oversee and manage the planning, development, and execution of restoration and trail-building projects.
  • Collaborate with the Conservancy’s team and partners to execute initiatives for habitat preservation and invasive species management.
  • Ensure the maintenance and expansion of trail networks and access points for public use.
  • Oversee and manage all SFC communication programs, including an electronic newsletter, the website, use of social media platforms, and other communication materials.

Operational and Financial Oversight

  • Oversee the organization’s budget, finances, and resources to ensure sustainability and growth.
  • Work closely with the Board to ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise and support staff, volunteers and contractors, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experienced in nonprofit leadership, environmental conservation, or a related field.
  • Proven success in fundraising, particularly in securing major gifts, grants, sponsorships, and implementing sustainable programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with experience building and maintaining strategic partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, project management, and community outreach.
  • Strong communication and public speaking abilities.
  • Understands and is knowledgeable in the use of social media.
  • Passion for conservation and familiarity with environmental issues, especially urban ecology.
