Do you love teaching? LaAmistad is looking for applicants that live our core values and are interested in providing educational support and services to the Latino community. LaAmistad is seeking passionate, responsible team members to support afterschool program locations for our organization.  Floater Substitute Teacher are primarily responsible for instructing students in an after-school classroom setting with volunteer tutors as a as needed base.

Each role with LaAmistad is part of a strong team. To support the team, you will likely be required to walk quickly across varying distances on our campuses, lift and carry supplies and other materials, push heavy rolling carts, and climb multiple flights of stairs as well as have adequate hearing and vision to successfully navigate the requirements of the position. 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Assist teachers in recognizing and responding to the multiple needs of the diverse learners in LaAmistad Afterschool.
  • Assist teachers in utilizing a variety of on-going, research-based assessment approaches to inform and differentiate instruction.
  • Research, teach, and model best practices used to address the needs of those students who struggle with reading and writing.
  • Assist with implementing a balanced approach of direct teaching using authentic reading and writing opportunities.
  • Work with Academic Director, teachers and administrators to develop and implement appropriate literacy strategies, implementation plans, and assessment tools.
  • Assist with program-wide literacy initiatives.
  • Provide constructive feedback to teachers in their approach and instruction in reading and writing.
  • Demonstrate instructional leadership and professionalism.
  • Effectively communicate accurate and up-to-date information to teachers and students in a way that enhances student learning.
  • Manage time and resources appropriately.
  • Create a positive atmosphere that promotes cooperation with administration, parents, coworkers, and students.
  • Demonstrate concern for students’ and teachers’ well-being.
  • Embrace and encourage the acceptance of diversity.
  • Maintain familiarity with current educational issues.
  • Use current technology for instruction and management purposes.
  • Be available to consult with parents, students, administration, and peers outside instruction times, as needed.
  • Analyze data to target instruction, enhance student learning and inform teacher practice.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods of time and to daily carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Must provide own Laptop.
  • Support student academic performance through literacy, math skills, and social/emotional development. 
  • Work with the Academic Director to develop individualized learning strategies and plan differentiated educational activities based on the needs and interests of the students.
  • Evaluate learning objectives for each student based on assessment results and school data and adjust if necessary.
  • Collaborate with teachers to obtain student data reports needed to assure student progress. (Report cards, Reading Level, IEP information, ESOL status, etc.)
  • Administer student assessments and own data reporting fidelity.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to parents, schools, LaAmistad Afterschool and Academic Director.
  • Responsible for training, cultivating, and supporting volunteer tutors.
  • Share program updates via weekly newsletter with volunteers, host church representative, and school staff/representatives.
  • Strong collaboration with the Parent Liaison in supporting students, parents, and location duties.
  • Ensure safety and security of children enrolled through host site emergency procedures.
  • Hold parent conferences.
  • Attend mandatory meetings/training as scheduled throughout the year.
  • Seek and give feedback on how the organization can better serve students.
  • Manage other program staff (interns, program assistants, volunteers, etc.)
  • Assist in identifying, attracting and retaining students through enthusiasm for and promotion of LaAmistad Afterschool.

Highly Preferred

  • Minimum of one year working with school-age youth, ages 5-11 
  • First Aid/CPR training
  • Good communication, planning, and organizational skills
  • Confidence to run a classroom alone
  • Ability to build relationships with volunteers, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds to create a dynamic environment for students to learn and thrive
  • Master’s degree in Education 
  • Exhibit theoretical and research-based knowledge of language acquisition and child development through middle childhood.
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience
  • Possess or qualify for a Georgia License
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as determined appropriate and acceptable by Executive Director
  • Must provide own Laptop.

**This position is temporary, part-time, and is for one school year.**

Must be open to travel to ALL locations.
