How you Will Power our Purpose (Job Summary)
The Associate Executive Director, Mental Health & Community Wellness is a mission-driven, strategic, and operations-oriented thinker that will help the YMCA of Austin build and innovate healthy living programs. With the growth in the region, we are looking to enhance and innovate our programs and experiences as well as expand our services throughout the region. You will successfully lead a team with 1 direct report and provide guidance to center leadership across three counties. As the Associate Executive Director of Mental Health & Community Wellness, your responsibilities will be both broad and strategic, as well as tactical. You will thoughtfully set and drive a mental health and community wellness strategy with a focus on growth, innovation, technology, culture, and people leadership. You will guide the organization in providing best-in-class mental health and community wellness programs, as well as developing, piloting, and launching new initiatives, including but not limited to mental health services, community support programs, wellness workshops, virtual counseling, and integrated health programs.

- Responsible for hiring, coaching, and managing all direct reports and ensuring alignment with association people practices for all positions within their organizational structure.
- Responsible for successful Strategic Plan metrics, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to meet strategic goals and objectives.
- Implements a goal-based leadership approach (OKR methodology) and ensures the Development Team is actively working towards supporting organizational level objectives and key results. Conducts Cycle Check-ins and the Annual Check-In with direct reports to ensure progress with OKRs, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, and discuss professional development
- Accountable for leading a communicative, inclusive, and transparent internal staff culture across the enterprise where best practices, high outcomes, and shared accountability are the norms.
- Along with the Associate Vice President of Operations, develops strategies related to performance achievement and DEI to meet organizational strategic imperatives.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
- Monitors monthly financial reports to ensure that revenue targets are met and expenses
are controlled. Ensures that all grant deliverables are achieved and reported appropriately and accurately.
- Leads the development and daily operations of counseling services at the YMCA.
- Identifies potential areas for Center cooperative programming to accomplish YMCA goals, and works with staff groups to develop and implement programs. Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs and leads branch staff in the planning, development, and implementation of new program initiatives and activities.
- Produces annual reports and analyses of the Association’s achievements in comparison to the stated strategic goals and objectives.
- In collaboration with the Associate Vice Presidents, provide the format and necessary data to enable the Association to effectively plan for the future at determined intervals.
- Provide the climate under which new programs are developed, staff development is encouraged, and the goals of branch operations are achieved.
Program Operations and Supervision (50%)
- Assists the Associate Vice President (AVP), Whole Person Health and Chief Operating Officer in the planning and formulation of the long-range community health, mental health and addiction treatment goals of the Association.
- Works with organizational leadership to lead the growth and operations of Everline Counseling program. Directly leads recruitment and supervision of clinical interns, direct service MH & addiction treatment and directly supports the AVP, Operations in the development and operations of the Everline counseling program.
- Directly supports the creation and development of counseling addiction treatment program to broaden services to sober homes already in partnership with the YMCA.
- Monitors monthly participation and financial reports to ensure that targets are met. Recommends new programmatic offerings (e.g. workshops, trainings, groups) for expansion as well as those that should be discontinued based on community and market trends.
- Responsible for recruiting and providing clinical supervision to clinical interns with a focus on clear expectations, accountability, and inclusion.
- Collaborates with health & wellness impact team members where appropriate to design and pilot new programs and experiences related to mental health, addiction support services and community health programs.
- Works with the marketing group to successfully brand and launch programs.
- Stays informed about industry trends, whole person health market trends impacting our service delivery, and advancements in mental health, addiction and community health programming.
- Serve as a conduit between the YMCA and the community as well as internally within the YMCA centers and leadership to ensure alignment with the whole person health strategy.
Program Innovation and Growth (20%)
- Partners with current sober home partners to develop new programming to support participants in early addiction recovery.
- Recruit and supervise clinical interns from local graduate counseling and MFT programs to ensure every Greater Austin YMCA center has onsite Everline counseling service.
- Identify gaps in mental health and addiction services and develop initiatives to fill those gaps
- Evaluates program funding, makes recommendations, develops business cases and program growth and development strategies to sustain community health programs.
- Supports Development team with expertise and cultivation to gain financial support for community health programs in areas that need sponsorship and other philanthropic support.
- Works with AVP of whole person health to ensure that all grant deliverables are achieved and
- reported appropriately and accurately.
- Stays current on mental health and wellness market trends impacting our service delivery, programs, and partnerships.
- Supports Advancement team (grants specific) with expertise and cultivation to gain financial support for centers and programs in areas that need sponsorship and other philanthropic support.
Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
- Represents the Y as a subject matter expert in community health initiatives locally, state, and national levels.
- Serves on association-level impact teams, task forces, and committees to provide insights and leadership, shaping the future of the Greater Austin YMCA.
- Participates fully in Association events conducted for staff and volunteers. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Associate Vice President, Whole Person Health.
What You Bring to the Community Enterprise
- A Master's degree in counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy (or an associated field). You hold a valid Texas license in one of the following: LMFT-Associate, LMFT, LPC-Associate, LPC, LCSW, LMSW.
- Experience providing individual, couple and family mental health therapy services to a diverse demographic population. Capacity to work some holidays and weekends as program needs require.
