About the Role:

The Grant Writer will be responsible for researching grant opportunities, writing compelling grant proposals to acquire funding, filing grant documentation, timely updating of grant tracking spreadsheets, and working with our leadership team to ensure we acquire adequate and diverse revenue streams for programming and operations.  The position will be based in the organization’s administrative offices in the Buckhead area of Atlanta and work with the Development Director and Executive Director.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify new grant funding opportunities
  • Gather information and write grant proposals, letters of interest/inquiry, concept papers, and related materials for proposal submissions that align with LaAmistad's mission and programming
  • Conduct internal peer review sessions with the Executive Director, Director of Development, program team, and/or Board to ensure alignment and improve overall award success rate
  • Prepare and submit applications and reports per funder requirements and deadlines
  • Furnish prospective funders with supporting documents
  • Collaborate with colleagues to collect and store data, photos, and anecdotes for use in grant reports
  • Input all actions and opportunities into Raiser’s Edge donor database
  • Maintain accurate internal records and update grant tracking spreadsheets
  • Weekly participation in Development team meetings
  • Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods of time and to daily carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Must provide own Laptop.  
  • Each role with LaAmistad is part of a strong team. To support the team, you will likely be required to walk quickly across varying distances on our campuses, lift and carry supplies and other materials, push heavy rolling carts, and climb multiple flights of stairs as well as have adequate hearing and vision to successfully navigate the requirements of the position.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, creative writing, or a related area
  • Proven work experience as a Grant Writer or similar role
  • Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process
  • Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources
  • Strong multitasking, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity
  • Familiarity with the metro Atlanta philanthropic community and funding sources for non-profits
  • Great with MS Office Word and Excel
