The Hidden GEM Creative Studios is a non-profit social enterprise & creative studio that provides workspace, creative services and professional training for innovative artists from marginalized communities. Co-founded in 2015 by a group of independent Black & Brown social justice filmmakers who wanted to support displaced youth, a handful of media professionals came together to form a safe space for artists to build networks and develop businesses, while helping develop the next generation BIPOC filmmakers.

Our flagship Career Pathways Program provides mentorship, access to high level equipment, free classes, exclusive networking events & exhibitions dedicated to advancing artists in our community. Upon completion of our program, we provide artists with paid contracts, entry-level job placements, externships and access to post-secondary academic programs. We are dedicated to providing career and educational pathways for independent artists of color who have been marginalized by the mainstream entertainment industry and lack access to a public voice to improve their communities.

Purpose of External Consultant

This consulting engagement is a temporary position with possibility of extension/a full time position depending if capital is secured for organizational development and capacity building. The consultant will work with organizational leadership and the board to develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy and to identify/write program-based grants to secure our programs and operations.

Time Frame

April/May through August 2024, with a possible ongoing relationship.

External Consultant Key Responsibilities

  • Identify top priorities and fresh approaches for raising capital to advance our mission.

  • Identify major donors/foundations to approach and engage.

  • Execute strategies to increase gifts, grants awards and earned income.

  • Support our executive leadership in building relationships with major donors.

  • Implement systems to augment annual giving and digital fundraising campaigns.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in major gifts; to include strategy, prospecting, moves management, and making the ask.

  • Experience successfully working with boards to enhance their fundraising skill, comfort level, and results.

  • Being a skilled teller of compelling stories, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to work independently and be a team player who will productively engage with

    others.

  • A belief in the importance of the Hidden GEM’s mission, BIPOC artists, and the need to

    establish a creative economy for communities of color.
