GENERAL MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

STATUS: Full Time, Exempt SALARY: $68,500/ YR 

LOCATION: Brewster, NY (Hybrid at times)

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SPACE on Ryder Farm is a nonprofit artist residency and organic farm located on a 127 acre farm in Brewster, NY. SPACE seeks a General Manager to work alongside SPACE’s leadership team to serve as the administrative hub of the organization, focusing most directly on financial management and the steady flow of operations organization-wide. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and excited to contribute to a mission-driven not-for-profit. 

FINANCE

 The General Manager will  manage the organization’s day to day finances, including monthly actuals and cash flow, payroll processing for staff and independent contractors, accounts payable, expense reports, bank transactions,  and reconciling company receipts. With SPACE’s bookkeeper, the GM will oversee the annual audit and 990 process. They will also be responsible for all tax paperwork and filings. 

RESIDENCY

The GM will work with the Executive Director to support residency operations. This will include welcoming residency hosts and chefs, overseeing resetting of spaces during turnovers, and scheduling residency team members. The GM will also keep general SPACE inventory stocked and work with guest chefs on food orders. They will also manage relationships with residency contractors (cleaning company, repairs persons, etc.) 

HUMAN RESOURCES  

The GM will manage human resources for SPACE’s team. They will be responsible for executing all annual state and federal compliance requirements  for the organization,  including Paid Family Leave filings, department of labor claims, wage management and workers compensation claims. They will execute employee contracts, offer letters, and independent contractor agreements. Finally, the GM will oversee the SPACE’s safety plans including COVID-19, fire, inclement weather, and additional plans as needed. 


GENERAL ADMINISTRATION 

The GM will act as the administrator for SPACE’s email domain, company drive, and any project management software including Slack. They will manage the ongoing relationship with insurance brokers and adjust policies as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

Strong commitment and belief in the mission and vision of SPACE on Ryder Farm. Two years of prior non-profit financial and human resource experience.  Strong written and verbal communication skills. Acute attention to detail and the ability to respect and protect confidential materials and conversations is imperative. Proficiency with Google Suite required. They should be fully versed in NYS Labor Laws and financial policies.

SPACE on Ryder Farm is a small organization that is rebuilding in the wake of the pandemic. While we value clear boundaries around job responsibilities, all team members are encouraged to keep an eye out for and support each other. The SPACE staff seeks to extend the radical hospitality that we offer to residents to ourselves and each other. This is a full-time position working out of SPACE’s Brewster location in Putnam County, New York, with some flexibility regarding remote work at the discretion of the Executive Director. All of SPACE’s staff members are  frequently invited to join the table for home-cooked, hyper-local meals shared  in community with theatremakers, artists, and farmers. There is also ample opportunity for land-based side projects for those with thumbs that are either fully realized or aspirationally green.
