Development Manager, Community Engagement 

Position Summary 

CURE Childhood Cancer (“CURE”) is seeking an experienced individual to serve as Development Manager, Community Engagement.  The successful candidate will join a well-respected and collegial team and will contribute to the mission of the organization, which is to conquer childhood cancer through funding targeted research while supporting patients and their families. Reporting to the Sr. Development Director, Events & Initiatives, the Development Manager, Community Engagement is responsible for all third-party fundraisers and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September) programs, as well as providing broad support for CURE’s signature events.  

The Development Manager, Community Engagement will be forward-thinking with capabilities to collaborate and innovate and will build positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, internally and externally. The successful candidate will be strategic, analytical, organized, team-oriented, and able to make decisions in a fast-paced environment. She/he will collaborate with members of the organization at every level and forge new relationships and partnerships needed to advance CURE’s reach, impact, and financial goals. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Under the supervision of the Sr. Development Director, lead CURE’s fundraising strategy for all third-party events and September programs. 
  • Assist Sr. Development Director with third-party and September forecasting and budget management.  
  • Create and maintain documents to track progress and revenue for all third-party and September events and initiatives.  
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, acting as a trusted and reliable point of contact, and identify opportunities for deeper engagement and involvement. 
  • Independently manage third-party fundraisers, actively seeking opportunities to engage businesses, schools and the community with CURE’s mission throughout the year. 
  • Maintain year-round cultivation and stewardship of third-party event hosts and donors.  
  • Serve as primary point of contact, replying to all phone/email inquiries from the community about third-party fundraising opportunities. 
  • Attend and represent CURE at community events, as needed.  
  • Perform all day-to-day functions of CURE’s third-party program including but not limited to, reviewing all incoming third-party agreements and inquiries, conducting pre/post-event donor touch points, and fulfillment of materials and resources. 
  • Manage and oversee CURE’s September programs, including CURE’s Kids, September Community Partners, Coins4CURE and the Garden Flag program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, donor prospecting, recruitment and stewardship, fulfillment of September materials mailings and attending events and/or check presentations, as needed. 
  • Assess all September activations, measure success year-over-year and make recommendations for changes and/or new activations.  
  • Work with marketing and communications team to coordinate preparation of all third-party and September marketing and collateral needs.  
  • Perform all other job-related responsibilities and duties as required by the Board of Directors, CEO, Sr. Development Director, Events & Initiatives and/or Sr. Development Manager, Events & Initiatives. 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred. 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in non-profit development and fundraising. 
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, required. 
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines effectively. 
  • Superior organizational skills and strict attention to detail a must. 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide superior customer service and apply sound judgment when dealing with committees, donors and volunteers. 
  • Willingness to take initiative and awareness of when to consult supervisor for direction. 
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately. 
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising principles and practices. 
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative work ethic. 
  • A strong belief in the organization's mission, goals and accomplishments. 
  • Ability to represent CURE Childhood Cancer in a mature and professional manner. 
  • Ability to successfully work independently and in a team environment and maintain flexibility; willingness to quickly adapt to change. 
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, a positive sense of humor and strong work ethic. 
  • Must be able to travel through expanded Atlanta metropolitan area and provide reliable transportation.
