Through our place-based youth and family programs, YELLS (Youth Empowerment through Learning, Leading, and Serving, Inc.) serves as a community hub and center for servant-leadership in our students’ own neighborhood.  Our programs engage the whole child, whole family, and whole community to empower youth with the skills, resources, and character they need to serve as effective leaders and change makers within their community. After 15 years of place-based work in the Franklin Gateway neighborhood, YELLS is expanding to bring its powerful programming to the Fair Oaks community, a diverse Cobb County neighborhood with primarily Hispanic and Latino families. This will begin with the development of the Fair Oaks YELLS Youth Program for Kindergarten-5th grade youth in Fair Oaks Elementary School, launching in January 2024.  

The role of the Program Coordinator / Lead Teacher is to launch and implement the new Fair Oaks YELLS Youth Program, equipping all YELLS youth with the support and instruction needed to excel in school and in life.  The Program Coordinator / Lead Teacher is responsible for ensuring our team of staff, volunteers, community partners, and residents collaborate to lead high-quality programming that transforms lives.  Additionally, the Program Coordinator / Lead Teacher will deliver dynamic and engaging leadership, reading, language arts, and math lessons, as well as oversee individual and group tutoring for youth. 

Essential Duties and Functions 

Program Management and Coordination 

• Collaborate with the Project Director to understand, uphold, and communicate YELLS’s vision & values  
• Develop, customize, launch, and actualize the new Fair Oaks YELLS Youth Program by bringing the YELLS program model, curriculum, and vision to full reality   
• Coordinate, schedule, and oversee all programming to reach optimal engagement and impact 
• Design culturally responsive programming that reflects the unique needs of the diverse Fair Oaks community and ensure communication is inclusive of the Hispanic/Latino population 
• Ensure all activities are high-energy, interactive, and non-traditional 
• Recruit, supervise, and support program staff, volunteers, and community groups, and ensure that all programs and activities follow best practices to engage youth, families, and community in dynamic experiences 
• Coach staff to collaborate in designing activities that complement each other to best deliver a holistic curriculum centered on student achievement, servant-leadership, community engagement, and character development 
• Conduct performance reviews for staff and interns and provide coaching and training to support their growth 
• Develop program evaluation plan and use evaluation reports and feedback to guide program enhancements 
• Manage and supervise volunteer recruitment, orientation, training, and engagement  
• Plan, publicize, and implement special events, fieldtrips, service opportunities, and family engagement activities 
• Develop and implement strategies to increase youth and family engagement & achieve optimal daily attendance  
• Identify and connect with local resources and partners to enhance program delivery and coordination 
• Promote an environment that welcomes and empowers all youth, parents, and staff  

Student Academic Achievement 

• Oversee the development of interactive and engaging academic enrichment lesson plans tailored to students’ school-day curriculum and areas of weakness.  Lessons should be taught “after-school style,” with plenty of physical movement, authentic experiences, and lots of fun! 
• Incorporate Service Learning and community engagement activities into reading, language arts, and math lessons 
• Direct staff and volunteers in providing academic instruction and tutoring to youth 
• Coordinate school visits and teacher collaboration to connect YELLS with school-day learning 
• Design and implement diagnostic tools to assess and track student performance and use to guide interventions 

Administrative 

• Complete grant reports and ensure all grant requirements and goals are met 
• Translate and interpret communication in Spanish and English 
• Help maintain fiscal responsibility to the organization and associated grants and manage program budget 

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred 
• Employee management and training experience 
• Wealth of knowledge and experience (at least five years) in positive youth development, service learning, and best practices in program design and development 
• Exceptional writing and speaking skills for crafting communications with partners  
• Wealth of knowledge in best practices for teaching reading, writing, and math; classroom experience a plus 
• Enthusiastic, dynamic personality that inspires and motivates children and community 
• Cultural proficiency and experience working alongside and advocating for Hispanic/Latino youth and families in an empowering and uplifting way 
• Bilingual – fluent in both English and Spanish  
• Effective behavior management skills 
• Ability to work independently and be self-directed, staying organized to meet deadlines  
• Advanced technological skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 
• COVID-19 vaccination required, or willingness to get vaccinated, due to interaction with youth 

Hours: Full time: 9:30 am – 6:30 pm Monday through Friday during school year, with some evening/weekend obligations; Summer hours adjusted earlier  

Compensation Range: $50,000 - $58,000 based on qualifications, plus excellent benefits package
