Position Summary
Odyssey is seeking a dynamic development professional who will join our collaborative team to help make an audacious vision for our scholars come true. We aim to increase the impact of our flagship fundraiser event, an Evening for Education, build a multi-year giving program, increase corporate investment & partnerships, and continue growing our donor base. The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director, Board, Special Event Committee, and Engagement Director.
Job Responsibilities
Annual Campaign and Major Gifts
- Manage annual appeals for the Board, Advisory Council, and Individual Donors
- Development of corporate partnership and investment proposals for prospective
- partners
- Cultivation and stewardship of donors
- Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to create donor and special event
- collateral
Special Events
- Serve as Lead for all special events, which include Evening for Education, Donor
- Recognition and notable donor and prospective donor engagement
- Coordinate event logistics and assist in creating “Run of Show.”
- Collaborate with the Engagement Director to develop individual, Board, and corporate engagement opportunities
- Serve as Odyssey contact for vendors
Grant Management
- Serves as Odyssey lead contact for grant support
- Manages grants, including application and reporting
- Maintain files for foundation, government, and corporate grants
- Research and cultivate new grant funding opportunities
Administration and Financial Reporting
- Revenue and pipeline analysis and reporting monthly
- Strategic planning on annual campaigns
- Lead Odyssey Board committees in strategic plan and direction in partnership with
- Executive Director
- Donor communication to include letters, tax receipts, and invitations
- Maintain donor database
- Processing of pledges and financial investments
Development Support
Odyssey understands that a team must accomplish goals and support the mission. Therefore, the following staff and volunteers help the essential functions of the Director of Development.

Essential Skills
- 5- years of professional development experience responsible for $1M-$2M in revenue
- Experience in fundraising from corporations, foundations, and significant gift individuals
- Proven track record with managing special events with 300+ attendees
- Experience in growing or diversifying funding sources
- Excellent writing and verbal communication with diverse stakeholders
- CRM/database management; Blackbaud/Etapestry highly beneficial
Company
Odyssey is an educational non-profit organization partnering with Atlanta Public Schools to
serve students in grades 1-12 from underserved BIPOC communities and under-resourced
schools. Odyssey’s academic enrichment program focuses on students with unmet potential,
preparing them for high school graduation and supporting them through college.
Our 6-week summer program (5 weeks for Odyssey High) is held on the campus of The
Westminster Schools. The 375+ students selected to attend Odyssey are enrolled at schools in
the Atlanta Public School system and will be in grades 1 through 12 in the school year following
the summer. All expenses to attend Odyssey, which include transportation, school supplies,
lunch, field trips, overnight camps, etc. are provided through the generosity of our donors and
supporters. Odyssey strives to create an engaging educational environment that gives students
the ability to excel in the upcoming school year and beyond; and to find value and excitement
in classroom learning.
