ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

The Executive Director (ED) of Easy Does It (EDI) has overall operational responsibility for staff, programs, finances, fundraising and implementing an annual budget of $2 million. The ED represents EDI to funding sources such as the City of Berkeley and Alameda County as well as to other organizations serving persons with disabilities and to the San Francisco Bay Area disability community.

Easy Does It is a 501 C3 non-profit organization providing multiple emergency services, including emergency attendant care, accessible transportation, and wheelchair repair, to help persons with disabilities and seniors to live independently in the city of Berkeley. We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with a staff of approximately 27 salaried, hourly, and on-call employees.

  • Strong grant writing skills and a successful track record of grant awards.
  • Have personal experience with a physical disability and be knowledgeable about the issues and needs of different disability populations, including homeless persons with disabilities.
  • Have personal experience with the issues of managing personal care attendants.
  • Be familiar with other community resources and disability related organizations.
  • Be able to demonstrate a personal commitment to providing quality service to EDI clients and adhering to EDI program policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide leadership in program, organizational and financial planning to meet objectives set by the Board of Director Directly oversee senior staff.
  • Work with the Board of Directors in preparing an annual budget.
  • Ensure the organization is operating efficiently, within budget, delivering quality service to our clients and fairly treating our employees.
  • Work with the Board of Directors and staff to maintain and expand the organization’s revenues through contracts, grants, donations, copays, and other sources.
  • Complete annual evaluations of senior staff, and ensure all staff receive annual evaluations.
  • Supervise periodic reviews of our financial protocols to ensure EDI is operating in compliance with general accounting practices.
  • Ensure reports to public and private funders are completed timely and accurately.
  • Implement EDI commitments (some requiring Board of Directors approval), including city, state and county contracts, grant contracts, banking and financial contracts, leases, insurance and other legal documents and agreements.
  • Supervise maintenance of official records and documents and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Effectively represent EDI to funding sources, other organizations, the disability community, and the public.
  • Engage general public and community decision makers around access, disability rights, and Independent Living Philosophy and practices.
  • Lead and/or participate in coalition meetings and work effectively with diverse partners.
  • Supervise staff recruitment.
  • Periodically review our employee benefit plan to ensure it is attractive and competitively priced.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 years of experience working as an Executive Director OR working at the senior staff level of a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization (preferably dedicated to disability rights and/or disability-related services).
  • 3 years of experience supervising staff. 3 years of experience writing proposals for submission to grant competitions.
  • Have personal experience with a physical disability and be knowledgeable about the issues and needs of different disability populations, including homeless persons with disabilities.
  • Have personal experience with the issues of managing personal care attendants.
  • Experience working in an organization with a racially and ethnically diverse staff.
  • Experience working in an organization with racially and ethnically diverse clients.

EDI is offering a salary range from $100,000 – $112,000, based on previous job performance and salary history.
