The Senior Philanthropic Partnerships Manager will play a critical role in securing unrestricted and institutional funds towards achieving IPA’s mission and vision. Reporting to the Chief Partnerships & Philanthropy Officer and working with senior staff and members of the Board, the (Senior) Philanthropic Partnerships Manager will successfully manage and support an existing portfolio of individual donors and foundations and prospects, and they will be a thoughtful partner on fundraising strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new and existing donors and funders. The (Senior) Philanthropic Partnerships Manager will also play a key role in identifying new prospects to support IPA’s unrestricted revenue goals, including a $15 million capital campaign to be launched in Fall 2023.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for philanthropy, partnership, and IPA’s mission; be skilled in communicating technical work to non-technical audiences in a compelling way; excel in activity and project management with a high attention to detail; and have at least 5 years of relevant experience including 3+ years of front-line fundraising and/or donor communications for a non-profit organization, preferably in a related field.

Must be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.

Compensation:

IPA's compensation structure is designed based on the labor market for the specific geographic location where the employee is located.  We are offering the following salary ranges for this position:

-  Manager is classified as "C3" on IPA's global job structure.

-  For US based employees the starting annual gross salary is $77,598 with a maximum of $80,000

- The salary for locations outside of the US will vary depending on IPA's salary scale ranges for that specific location.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location.

Responsibilities 

Fundraising portfolio management & support

  • Manage, and support senior staff in managing, an existing portfolio of major donors, foundations and prospects to resource IPA’s strategy for lasting impact on global poverty. In collaboration with IPA leadership, cultivate relationships between IPA and critical high net worth individuals, strategic partners, and other current and potential major donors aligned with IPA’s mission.
  • Lead the process of qualifying major donor prospects, creating and executing a plan to attract, retain and upgrade prospects and donors.
  • Meet with donors/funders and prospects on a regular basis, document all actions in Salesforce.
  • Be a thought partner in setting the annual fundraising strategy, including annual and multi-year planning, individual donor strategy, and partnership strategy.
  • Work with other Philanthropic Partnership team members to establish and achieve short- and long-term goals for increasing unrestricted and strategic funding.
  • Maintain accurate records of donor/funder outreach and solicitation plans and create reports as required by management that accurately reflect fundraising activity and performance.
  • Provide strategic advice and support to senior leadership in the organization to position IPA for funding opportunities, ensuring the right internal, external, and board collaborators are appropriately informed and consulted along the way

Proposals, Reporting & Communications

  • Contribute to information-gathering and drafting of proposals, pitch decks, budgets, and other written solicitation materials.
  • Directly manage unrestricted and institutional grants, working across IPAs teams and country offices to collaboratively write proposals and reports.
  • Collaborate closely with the Policy, Communications, and other teams to create philanthropic partner- facing communications materials.
  • Stay abreast of IPA-related news and new studies, as well as philanthropic and business news that relates to portfolio and major giving generally, in order to be a knowledgeable representative of IPA who can share compelling pitches and stories with donors.
  • Speak and write accurately about IPA, it’s mission, policies, culture, values, history, key stakeholders, programs and finances.

Trips & Events

  • Plan and lead fundraising and awareness-raising events in collaboration with board members, other senior staff, and researchers.
  • Coordinate online and in-person events targeting current and prospective donors/funders, contributing to the strategy for each event.
  • Plan and support high impact trips and events involving senior staff and events to develop partnerships.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time

Other

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain compliance with all organization policies and procedures.

Qualifications 

  • Undergraduate degree required. Master’s degree in economics, development, international relations, public administration, public policy or a closely related field preferred. Will accept additional experience in place of education.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience including 3+ years of front-line fundraising and/or donor communications for a non-profit organization, preferably in a related field of work.
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting and closing major gifts.
  • Understanding of fundraising best practices and the ability to think strategically with regard to next steps after meetings to move the relationship forward.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a high degree of professionalism and ease with people. Ability to forge trusting relationships based on shared values and a sense of wanting to accomplish something together
  • Experience working effectively and respectfully with colleagues at all levels, including members of the senior management team and high-level external stakeholders such as high net worth individuals and organizational leaders.
  • An exceptional written and verbal communicator, with the ability to effectively position the organization and to communicate its vision and plans to a range of audiences.
  • Experience fundraising for a research organization a plus.
  • Willingness to work hard, be self-motivated, be curious, learn, and adapt quickly will be essential for doing well in this position.
  • Strong ability to manage up and across, collaborative team player, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excels in activity and project management with a high attention to detail, while mindful of the bigger picture.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to visit donors and prospects. Must be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
