The CDC Foundation’s Stewardship Associate is an integral part of the Advancement team, with a specific focus on the stewardship of individual and organizational donors to achieve fundraising and organizational goals. The Stewardship Associate engages donors in the CDC Foundation’s mission and vision by enhancing the donor experience and establishing meaningful relationships to create loyalty and increase donor retention. The Stewardship Associate has two key areas for which they are responsible: acknowledgment and recognition of donors and stewardship and reporting of donor impact.

The job is based at our Atlanta Headquarters and follows a hybrid model, offering flexibility while requiring office attendance as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drafts formal standard and custom gift acknowledgment letters for all individual, organizational and corporate donors and tracks in the Salesforce CRM.
  • Acknowledges all honor and memorial tribute gifts to the appropriate notification recipient.
  • Responds to general donor inquiries received via email from the general and Advancement inboxes and via phone.
  • Serves as Advancement lead for reviewing and editing all public-private partnership and Emergency Response narrative donor reporting.
  • Responsible for creating donor reports for general Emergency Response donors, as well as working across teams to assist on named and endowed fund reporting.
  • Responsible for mid-level and high-level donor special stewardship mailings and recognition activities.
  • Lead CDC Foundation organizational reporting, including Report to Congress, Report to Contributors and the Annual CDC Transparency Report and works closely with the Advancement data and Communications teams to pull, organize and review all donor lists and the narrative annual reporting.
  • Review incoming donor correspondence to incorporate into donor profiles or pass along to appropriate team members. Also responsible for fielding donor questions and routing receipt forms.
  • Review direct mail contact lists for data quality, including correct naming and contact information format.
  • Work with Gift Records to ensure donor data quality by alerting to any issues or updates needed.
  • Become familiar with and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the Foundation’s and CDC’s programs and activities.
  • Participate in staff activities, projects and assignments and assume other duties as assigned.
  • Must adhere to the Code of Ethical Principles of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals (AFP).
  • Must be conversant in, and stay current with, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) standards, IRS regulations and financial standards as pertains to charitable giving.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and be a professional with a minimum of three years non-profit experience, preferably in donor relations or related role.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience writing and editing donor impact reporting and stewardship collateral for large nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience pulling and organizing stewardship lists and mail data and coordinating in-house mailings.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite and experience using constituent relationship management systems (preferably Salesforce).
  • Results-oriented, team player, collaborative and self-motivated. Able to work with multiple departments to propel the mission forward through innovation and initiative.
  • Flexibility with a proven ability to handle changing business needs, multiple priorities and deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Accountability for meeting goals, objectives and deadlines with a proactive attitude and approach to work.
  • Discretion in handling confidential information relating to the giving history and backgrounds of donors/prospects.
