About Us
Global Growers Network (GGN) is a nonprofit based in Decatur, GA that partners with people from diverse cultures to grow fresh food for their families and for local marketplaces. We work with more than 300 growers representing over 20 cultures and languages. We operate a network of community gardens in Decatur and Clarkston, a market farm located at the Indian Creek MARTA station in Stone Mountain, and a 23-acre organic co-farm in Conyers.
Position Summary and Candidate Vision
The Farm Program Manager will serve as the lead agricultural partner, educator, advocate, and navigator for the diverse growers at our co-farm and market farm. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in organic fruit and vegetable production for local markets (Farmers markets, CSA, restaurants & wholesale), as well as experience working with growers in multicultural contexts and an understanding of barriers to agricultural resources traditionally faced by refugees, immigrants and people of color.
Job Responsibilities
- Recruit, screen, and support the integration of new growers to the co-farm and market farm, cultivating a culture of compliance with all co-farm rules and protocols
- Lead the agricultural, business and organic records training & technical assistance programs for cohorts (5-8 farmers each) at the co-farm and market farm, based on a newly-developed curriculum. This includes one-on-one meetings, workshops, field trips, field consultations and record keeping support
- Build and maintain relationships with strategic partners and agricultural service providers who can provide additional assistance to partner farmers
- Manage farm resource systems that support growers (i.e. tool, equipment, and infrastructure systems; ordering and invoicing), in consultation with the Operations Managers
- Maintain the co-farm’s organic certification compliance and manage annual recertification.
- Meet and document targeted deliverables, participate in farmer assessments and evaluations, and collaborate with farmers and staff to make ongoing enhancements to programmatic and co-farm activities
- Other responsibilities as needed
Requirements
- Organic, commercial fruit and vegetable farming experience, ideally in the SE United States
- Proven success maintaining organic certification for vegetable production farms
- Experience providing informal and experiential farm education programs for adult learners, preferably in multi-cultural contexts and/or for Limited English Proficient adults
- Proven ability to take initiative, prioritize multiple projects, and organize multiple tasks
- A demonstrated ability to to shift communication styles to fit the needs of a wide range of cultures, people, and organizations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferences
- Knowledge of resources and programs that support new and beginning farmers
- Experience in marketing and sales of fresh, local produce
- Knowledge of GAP Food Safety requirements and certification
- Experience working with interpreters and translators
Location and Schedule
This is an exempt position requiring a minimum of forty hours per week with standard working hours, Tuesday through Saturday, along with occasional pre-scheduled evening and weekend work. This position is based at our organic co-farm office in Conyers, GA. The position will require at least one day a week at our office at Legacy Park in Decatur, and regular activities at the market farm site in Decatur. Some pre-scheduled remote work is possible.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Benefits include: Healthcare Reimbursement Account ($370/month), cell phone stipend ($25/month), SIMPLE IRA retirement account (3% match), paid time off (starts at 14 days/year) and paid holidays (6 public holidays; 2 floating holidays; 2 week bonus time at year-end), and professional development budget ($1,000/year).
