SUMMARY OF POSITION PURPOS

The Vice President of Human Resources will innovate, collaborate, champion, and drive a broad range of human resources (HR) areas, including people strategy with a focus on high retention and work satisfaction, HR policies and procedures, talent acquisition and recruitment supporting/driving diverse and specialized staffing, employee relations, inclusion and diversity, performance management, employee engagement and satisfaction, benefits, HRIS, leadership and organizational development, staff training and development, safety, and compliance with all federal, state and local HR related laws, rules, and regulations. The VP will work closely with business leaders on alignment of business strategy to human capital strategy, and ensure this alignment extends to all aspects of talent management. This leader will maintain an effective level of business knowledge and be savvy about the business’ financial position, its growth plans & strategy, and its performance metrics. They will also inspire and manage a Human Resources Coordinator. This HR professional will be instrumental to growing Wellroot and the HR function, championing Wellroot’s values, and ensuring a positive internal workplace culture focused on staff retention. They report to the Chief Operating Officer and the role is hybrid, coming into the office typically 2-3 times a week. 

PRIMARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develops and leads the agency in the creation of a work-force culture that embraces agency values and generates a work ethic of high performance, teamwork, high-quality services, mutual respect, trust, compassion, inclusion, and equity. 
  • Works collaboratively with the operations team (senior leadership) to ensure alignment on HR agenda and delivery models. 
  • Develops workforce plans for internal client groups to anticipate talent needs and enable proactive sourcing.  
  • Oversees all talent acquisition initiatives, recruitment, and staff retention. 
  • Drives and supports performance management and development of all staff 
  • Builds and maintains external partnerships to aid in the process for recruiting and retaining specialized top talent. 
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the agency’s strategic and annual plans and works to achieve agency departmental goals and objectives. 
  • Collaborates with operations team on organizational design that enables the delivery of strategic goals and optimizes efficiencies and effectiveness. 
  • Oversee all aspects of payroll operations including payroll processes, procedures, taxes and compliance with all other regulatory requirements.   
  • Develops and proposes to operations team approval of policies and procedures governing the agency’s employment practices (e.g., workers compensation, record retention, leave, discrimination) Implements approved policies and procedures. 
  • Assess Wellroot’s current written policies/handbook to ensure that they are reflective of both the organization’s business needs, are consistent with its culture, and are reflective of the job market(s) in which the organization operates; maintain the same annually.  
  • Develops systems to help assure Wellroot stays in compliance with all HR related federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations, Council on Accreditation standards and Wellroot policies, procedures and instructions.  
  • Be both a welcoming and professional face and voice to external clients, potential partners, prospective employees, and current staff.  
  • Engage in and with our local community, through both professional and non-profit organizations, to enhance the image and reputation of the company, and to achieve maximum personal, professional growth and exposure. 
  • Develops and implements a management training program. 
  • Oversees and develops policies for the internship program for all programs and departments. 
  • Plans and implements methods for employee appreciation/recognition. 
  • Manages employee benefits programs including medical, dental, disability and life insurance, 401k Plan, paid time off plans (vacation, sick leave, holidays etc.), worker’s compensation, etc. 
  • Advises the Chief Operating Officer regarding developing employee relations issues including critical incidents, morale issues, ethics violations, HIPPA violations, employee satisfaction survey and exit interview results and other employee relations and compliance issues. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Prefer advanced degree in human resources, business administration or related area.   
  • A professional certification e.g., SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, PHR, CEBS, CCP is required. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of recent HR management experience. 
  • Evidence of a bold and creative leadership and management style with a bias for direct action—capable of leading, inspiring, and engaging people.  An individual who will foster a culture of engagement and empowerment that values diversity and demonstrates fair and consistent management practices; establishes trust and credibility with management and employees. 
  • A strategic thinker with experience planning, developing, and implementing systems  
  • Proven capacity for collaborative leadership of staff, volunteers and outside advisors.

Foster Care in GeorgiaFor nearly 150 years, Wellroot Family Services has been leading the effort to transform the lives of children and families in Georgia. Through our four programs, Wellroot cares for and encourages the growth and healing of children, young adults and families in and affected by the foster care system of Georgia.

Wellroot first opened its doors in 1871. Its name at the time, though, was The Decatur Orphans’ Home. Its mission was to serve the needs of children who had been orphaned during the Civil War. Over the next several decades, the needs of children and families in Georgia changed, as did the focus and programs of The Decatur Orphans’ Home, whose leadership continued to grow and transform the organization in order to better meet those needs. In 1934, after 63 years as The Decatur Orphans’ Home, The Board of Trustees approved a name change that would better reflect the growth of the organization, along with its potential as an Foster Familiesagency of the Methodist Church. The new name was The Methodist Children’s Home.  Thirty-six years later, in 1970, “United” was added to the name, reflecting the continued growth and transformation of the Methodist denomination.

The needs of children and families in Georgia continue to change and true to our heritage, the programs and focus continue to be transformed in order to better meet those needs.

In December 2018, the Board of The United Methodist Children’s Home approved another name change, one that better reflects the growth of the organization, along with its potential as an agency of The United Methodist Church. After 49 years of operating as The United Methodist Children’s Home, our organization is now called Wellroot Family Services.
