INTRODUCTION:

Decatur Legacy Project, d/b/a Legacy Decatur, is a 501c3 organization located in the City of Decatur, Ga.  The organization is seeking a creative, productive, and engaging individual to serve as the programs manager supporting the executive director and the board of directors and working closely with a diverse group of constituents. Legacy Decatur was founded in 2015 to support programs and projects benefitting the City of Decatur community and the goals of the city’s strategic plan which reflects the vision and principles of its residents.  This is a full-time, professional position.

The mission of Legacy Decatur is “to grow programs, partnerships, and resources that create and support a positive legacy for Decatur.”  Our work reinforces the values and goals outlined in the community’s strategic plan.  To that end, Legacy Decatur supports programs and activities that support inclusive and attainable housing, community building, and environmental stewardship.  These interests converge at the city’s 77-acre Decatur Legacy Park, a former United Methodist Children’s Home, where ongoing management and implementation of the property’s master plan constitutes Legacy Decatur’s principal interest.  Legacy Decatur provides operational and programming leadership at Decatur Legacy Park through an Operations Management Agreement with the City of Decatur. These responsibilities include leasing office space and buildings to non-profit tenants, promoting and managing special event rentals, and working closely with city departments.  Legacy Decatur also serves as the fiduciary agent for a range of small community-based programs such as the Friends of the Decatur Cemetery, A Season of Giving/Christmas Decatur, and the John Lewis Tribute Project.

The organization is led by an 11-member board of directors that includes two City of Decatur elected officials, the Decatur city manager and her appointee, and seven at-large board members appointed by the Decatur City Commission.  The staff includes a full-time executive director in addition to the full-time program manager.  Funding is budgeted for additional part-time staff as needed and the organization utilizes volunteers and interns for support.

JOB BRIEF

Legacy Decatur is seeking a new Programs Manager to be responsible for programs and operations at Legacy Park ensuring strong relationships with existing tenants, and the seamless management, development, and delivery of programs at the park.  The Programs Manager will also be responsible for scheduling and venue coordination for events.  This person will recruit and manage staff hired to support events held at Legacy Park and coordinate with city departments and staff members to maintain strong partnerships and communication.  The programs manager will also be responsible for coding revenue and expenditures within QuickBooks as well as tracking donations and payments for leases, events, and film rentals.  The Programs Manager will be a key external face of Decatur Legacy Park and the Legacy Decatur organization and work closely with the Executive Director to promote the park and the work of the organization throughout the community. The Programs Manager will be an integral part of a small but productive organization and have the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in a wide range of project areas.

Company

Founded as the Decatur Legacy Project in 2015 to facilitate the planning, community engagement, and fundraising efforts associated with the City's 2023 bicentennial celebrations, Legacy Decatur has since broadened its ambitions and, with them, its focus.  Today, the organization cultivates a broadly-defined, tangible legacy for future generations -- reinforcing community values through partnerships and programs that support the City of Decatur.  In 2020, Legacy Decatur entered into a management agreement with the City of Decatur to manage the operations, leasing and development of Decatur Legacy Park.  This 77 acre site was acquired by the City of Decatur in 2017 from the United Methodist Children's Home and includes 34 historic buildings, recreational facilities, a lake, trail system and conservation area.   The community's master plan for the property envisions a variety of uses including an arts center, artist studio space, non-profit resource center and office space, recreation and conservation programs, environmental education programs, summer camps and after school programs and a range of affordable housing opportunities.  Our job is to bring this vision to reality and create a unique community focused space for all to enjoy.
