Position: Director of Outreach and Organizing

Nashville P.R.O.P.E.L, (Parents Requiring Our Public Education system to Lead) was created in October 2018 by a group of Nashville parents and grandparents. We are an organization dedicated to empowering parents and revitalizing education in Nashville. We organize and develop powerful parent leaders to ignite a movement that demands equitable education policies and practices in Nashville public education. Through a parent advocacy fellowship, deep relationship building, neighborhood canvassing, knowledge and power building parent events, and community meetings Nashville P.R.O.P.E.L. strives to educate and equip parents with the knowledge and tools to demand radical systemic change. 

We are seeking a highly motivated and empathic individual to join our team as the Director of Outreach and Organizing. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring that our organization successfully discovers, engages, and trains our parent organizers who are the backbone of our organization. This position requires a visionary leader who can inspire and lead a team of up to 8 full and part time employees, while effectively strategizing and executing plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Management:
    • Coordinate education issue campaigns, develop measurable goals, and coach the team to successful implementation.Inspire and lead a team of up to 8 organizers, providing guidance, support, and ongoing training. 
    • Design and refine systems regarding accountability, feedback, decision-making, operations, and processes.
    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality and equity in education.
    • Develop and execute short-term actionable plans to achieve long-term goals.
    • Ensure strong data integrity routines and processes at every level of the organization to inform accurate reporting and ongoing knowledge management.
  2. Organizing for Power:
    • Build a movement of parent advocates through school and neighborhood outreach efforts.
    • Build powerful relationships with families and potential partners, training them in the skills of community organizing, and supporting them in building a base to take collective action.
    • Educate and train organizing team members on critical education issues and organizing tactics.
    • Hold 1-on-1 meetings, house meetings, and leadership team meetings and trainings with parents and community members, in order to build relationships, identify issues of concern, and develop and implement action plans.
    • Research and understand the needs of parents within the broader educational landscape.
    • In collaboration with the CEO, and Program Director, organize parent events and facilitate opportunities for parents to participate in the Public Advocate Fellowship (PAF).
    • Facilitate community meetings to empower parents and give them a voice in shaping their child's education.
  3.  Administrative Duties: 
    • Research and create weekly and monthly plans for outreach, canvassing and phone banking.
    • Track parent attendance results for each team member after events.
    • Review and approve required paperwork, confirm RSVPs, and support needs for all organizing team programming.
    • Track and monitor budgeted expenditures throughout the fiscal year and provide feedback to the CEO and CFO for budget creation. Regularly review financial reports and analyze spending patterns to ensure adherence to the budget.

This position may be assigned additional tasks as needed and directed by the CEO.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in community organizing, outreach, or related roles.
  • 2-3+ years’ leadership and management experience, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with parents, stakeholders, and community members.
  • Knowledge of educational equity issues and understanding of the educational landscape in Nashville.
  • Proficiency in using technology tools for organizing, data tracking, and communication, in addition to Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Able to maintain a flexible work schedule
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Preferred:
    • Bilingual, Spanish or other
    • Experience in political organizing
    • Experience in grassroots educational organizing

Compensation and Benefits

Annual salary for this position is $70,000 - $110,000 commensurate with experience. Our comprehensive benefits package is currently in the process of being updated. We will provide applicants with the full benefits package during the interview process.
