Concrete Jungle (CJ) transforms overlooked and underutilized fruit trees and land into a healthy food source for communities in need. We provide fresh produce to food insecure families by distributing produce from fruit trees and farms throughout the region; growing food on our farm and orchard; and providing nutrition education resources. As of December 2022, Concrete Jungle has distributed over 1,750,000 pounds of fresh, nutritious food.

In the past 13 years we have grown from a grassroots, volunteer-led initiative into a small but impactful nonprofit organization. We achieve all this impact with 4 full-time employees, several part time staff and interns, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers. Headquartered in Southwest Atlanta, Concrete Jungle currently has program staff in Atlanta and Athens who oversee program activities in those cities and throughout the state. 

Atlanta Branch Manager Description
Concrete Jungle is recruiting highly skilled and diverse candidates for our full time Atlanta Branch Manager position. The Atlanta Branch Manager will manage our local fruit pick and nutrition education (PEEL) programming, while providing support to our other harvest programs and coordinating donation distribution. In addition to program management, the Atlanta Branch Manager will lead ongoing volunteer engagement and relationship building with local community partners. While this role will include on-the-ground work, CJ seeks candidates who can provide collaborative supervision to our program team while also contributing to the  strategic direction of our programs. Primary responsibilities include:

Fruit Picks 

  • Conduct and oversee tree scouting to confirm pick locations for each event
  • Communicate pick details to tree owners, pick leaders, and volunteers 
  • Manage supply inventory, ensuring pick leaders have the necessary tools and supplies for each pick
  • Coordinate pick leaders, including overseeing shift sign ups, reviewing post-event feedback and scheduling check ins
  • Attend picks to lead when needed, train and shadow pick leaders, provide additional support, and build community with volunteers 
     

PEEL

  • Create and manage PEEL events schedule
  • Schedule PEEL interns and program assistants leading each PEEL events
  • Manage PEEL interns, holding regular check ins and collaborating on event planning and curriculum development 
  • Check in with partner organizations between events and cultivate partner relationships 
  • Attend PEEL events to train and shadow staff, provide additional support, and build community with partners and clients 

Other Program Support

  • Assist with Adventure Picks through volunteer recruitment, supply logistics, and as an onsite co-lead at 1-2 events/month
  • Support the Farm & Orchard by coordinating volunteer groups, supply logistics, and providing onsite lead support for large volunteer groups and special workdays 
  • Organize weekly donation distribution by confirming receiving organizations, coordinating intern support, and facilitating deliveries as needed
  • Coordinate miscellaneous post-harvested produce donations

Partner & Volunteer Engagement

  • Train, recruit and coordinate volunteer leaders
  • Spearhead volunteer cultivation efforts, by conducting outreach to community organizations, giving presentations, and coordinating potential volunteer groups 
  • Organize volunteer and partner appreciation efforts (e.g. socials, end of season gifts)
  • Meet with existing and potential community partners to identify opportunities for collaboration

Candidate Qualifications

  • Hospitality mindset: Community is one of Concrete Jungle’s core values and all CJ staff are expected to welcome people into our community, creating warm relationships & experiences. 
  • Management experience: Effectively manage people & projects simultaneously, tracking both towards goals and measuring progress along the way. Minimum of 2 years experience in people and project management.
  • Project planning: Effectively produce a plan to generate results, ruthlessly prioritize what is most important, and utilize all resources including necessary delegation.
  • Flexibility: Due to the nature of our work with perishable produce and volunteers, the Branch Manager should thrive in ambiguous, ever-evolving contexts, always ready to find a way forward. They should expect the unexpected, operate with calm and clarity when plans change, and have the capacity to support the team to action in these environments. 
  • Strategic relationship building: The Branch Manager is a forward facing position: constantly meeting new potential volunteers, partners, clients, and funders. The Branch Manager should be able to identify potential in all contacts & engage people into their next action with CJ.
  • Initiative & vision: Constantly striving to increase our impact on food insecurity and food waste, utilizing resources and relationships to identify possibility, and create a path where none yet exists.
  • Context switching: Seamlessly move between relationship builder, project manager, and team leader; can move between detail orientation and vision orientation quickly.
  • Fun: Create an exciting, joyous environment that makes the work irresistible.
  • Physical ability: Lift 40 pounds without strain; willingness to support the on-the-ground aspects of CJ's work.
  • Reliable transportation: Ability to transport produce and pick supplies as needed. 

Preferred candidates will also have:

  • 3-5 years of experience in one or more of these fields:
    • Agriculture/farming/gardening
    • Local food or sustainable food systems
    • Volunteer management
    • Nonprofit management
    • Teaching
  • Experience with CRMs or other data management systems

Compensation & Benefits: Annual Salary: $50,000-$55,000 based on experience. Concrete Jungle offers an attractive and competitive benefits package including health care, paid time off, technology stipend, hybrid and flexible work schedule, and professional development.
