Reporting to the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director provides strategic vision and creative leadership, developing resources and managing business operations of the organization. He or she also develops policies and plans and implements activities and programs that support the Foundation’s mission and vision. She or he serves as public spokesperson, preservation advocate and coalition builder for preservation programs. In addition, the Executive Director leads, guides and directs staff and supports the volunteer board, committees and task forces. Furthermore, the individual oversees and manages all construction of Historic Macon Rehabs, LLC, a state licensed general contractor company. Finally, he or she increases the national stature and recognition of Historic Macon Foundation.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Leadership
- With the staff and board, lead strategic planning process on a regular basis using the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), which is a tool typically used by for-profit businesses, but HMF has used successfully
- Manage, implement, update and report progress on current Vision Traction Organizer (VTO), which is the organization’s strategic plan
Public Relations and Image
- Be the face of HMF, representing the organization through public speaking and written communications
- Represent HMF at national events and on the national scale
Preservation and Policy
- Develop and implement public policy and advocacy campaigns, including the annual Fading Five list of endangered places
- Pursue preservation agreements and formal Memoranda of Understanding and Agreement with major institutional parties in Middle Georgia
- Use innovative and entrepreneurial programs to save historic places
Funding/Finances
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with funders and donors
- Create real estate pro formas in conjunction with construction staff
- Monitor the planning and budgeting for events
- Raise major donations from individuals, corporations and foundations
- With the Finance Committee and board, develop and oversee the annual budget
- Diversify revenue sources to ensure long-term growth and sustainability
Human Resources
- Supervise, hire and fire staff
- Develop an organizational chart and staffing plan to support HMF’s goals and objectives
- Supervise outside consulting work performed by staff
- Create and promote ongoing educational opportunities for the staff and the board
- Serve as liaison between the board and the staff
Management
- Oversee the financial status of the organization
- Determine the necessary policy and procedure manuals and supervise their production, participate in their creation as appropriate
- Provide oversight for significant contractual agreements of HMF
- Travel and research best practices in other communities for possible use in Macon
- Be available for meetings and events on nights and weekends
- Other duties as assigned by the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee
