Reporting primarily to the Director, Patient and Family Services, the Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Patient and Family Services team and CURE’s support services with an emphasis on managing community volunteers. This position requires an advanced level of professionalism, accountability, problem-solving abilities, interpersonal and communication skills, and a genuine empathy for childhood cancer patients and their families. 

General Responsibilities:

Support and maintain the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of CURE, as established by the Board of Directors.  Understand the strategic direction and purpose of CURE and conform to the stated strategies and business needs.

  • Effectively and enthusiastically represent CURE at partner hospitals with genuine compassion and empathy while serving a diverse community of childhood cancer patients and their families; Develop and nurture positive working relationships with all partner hospitals’ staff; 
  • Effectively and enthusiastically represent CURE’s mission and values throughout the communities we serve.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage CURE’s volunteers including recruitment, application process, communications, and volunteer requests;
  • Enter and maintain accurate volunteer records in Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge database;
  • Create a tracking system for volunteer involvement;
  • Prepare volunteer enewsletters as needed;
  • Serve at least one meal per week to hospitalized children and their families as part of CURE’s Open Arms Meal Program and assist with visits to the outpatient pediatric cancer clinics as needed;
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain and organize all supplies and in kind donations;
  • Support the Bereavement Care program by, among other things, preparing sympathy cards and monthly anniversary cards and assisting with the planning of CURE’s annual retreats for parents who have lost children to cancer:  Weekend of Hope and Healing and Legacy of Love Day;
  • Assist as needed with other Patient and Family Services programs, tasks, and projects such as Holiday Programs, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month initiatives, etc.;
  • Provide support for and attend CURE’s three signature events:  The Believe Ball, Quiet Heroes, and Lauren’s Run & Picnic; and
  • Perform all other job-related responsibilities and duties as requested by Board of Directors, CEO, and/or Patient and Family Services team.

Qualifications:

  • College degree preferred;
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines;
  • Genuine empathy for childhood cancer patients and their families;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • The ability to work in a collaborative, inclusive environment where teamwork and self-motivation are necessary for success;
  • The ability to take direction; positive attitude is paramount;
  • The ability to engage in a professional manner with volunteers and donors;
  • The ability to meet strict deadlines;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail;
  • Strong initiative to independently perform all duties of the position;
  • The ability to develop working knowledge of database software; and
  • Personal qualities of integrity, authenticity, humility, and a strong belief and commitment to CURE Childhood Cancer’s mission and goal.
