The Federal Defender Program, Inc., (hereinafter “FDP”) is a Georgia non-profit organization which is fully funded by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. We are not a Judiciary agency, and as such, are not Judiciary employees. The office contracts with the Administrative Office of the United States Courts to provide legal representation to indigent persons charged with federal crimes in the Northern District of Georgia. The Northern District encompasses Atlanta, Gainesville, Newnan, and the Rome Divisions of the United States District Court. Below is a description of the job opening.


TITLE: Trial Unit Paralegal

SALARY:
Based on experience and in accordance with guidelines issued by the Office of Defender Services – Range of $72,974 (JSP Grade 11, Step 1) to $87,466 (JSP Grade 12, Step 1).


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must have a minimum of two (2+) years of paralegal (criminal and/or Federal Court) experience. Candidate must be able to prepare clear and concise written and oral reports in addition to having strong research, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat is required. Experience with document review platforms and litigation support programs such as CaseMap, dtSearch, and Trial Director 360 is preferred. Candidates must be self-starters, organized, ambitious, and able to work independently and well under the pressure of deadlines. Attention to detail is essential.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Provide assistance in the representation of federally charged and/or death sentenced clients in federal trial and habeas corpus proceedings. Duties include, but are not limited to, discovery review and analysis, litigation support (both in and out of court), case preparation, maintenance of files, organizing and indexing discovery, evidence, and exhibits, as well as locating and retrieving documents, information, and records from outside sources.
