Overview:

Skyland Trail, a nonprofit mental health residential treatment program for adults and adolescents in Atlanta, is seeking a Senior Development Officer who will be responsible for building relationships and raising philanthropic dollars for Skyland Trail.

Key areas of focus include oversight of the grateful families program; individual prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship; and management of quarterly cultivation lunch and learns.

Duties:              

  • Implement strategies for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting alumni families and other individuals for gifts to support Skyland Trail.
  • Develop and actively manage a portfolio of major prospects and donors.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, admissions, and clinical staff to ensure cultivation of prospective grateful families prior to admission.
  • Develop stewardship strategies that continue the relationships for future gifts and planned giving opportunities.
  • Provide direction related to alumni family annual giving solicitations and other communications including quarterly alumni family newsletters.
  • Work with communications team to identify alumni family and/or patient stories that can be used to further build a culture of philanthropy.
  • Plan and manage quarterly Food for Thought lunch and learns to cultivate prospects and new donors.
  • Conduct prospect research and prepare briefing reports for senior leaders as appropriate.
  • Enter and track all activities, actions, call reports and deadlines in Raiser’s Edge database and other tracking systems.
  • Maintain strong internal and external relationships and stay apprised of current programs and strategic vision and direction of Skyland Trail. 
  • Maintain the highest confidentiality of patient population, donor records and prospect research.
  • Attend and assist with Skyland Trail fundraising events and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reports to:                    

Vice President of Development

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year, accredited college required
  • At least five years of fundraising experience and nonprofit sector experience highly preferred
  • Experience using Raisers Edge or similar development database program
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Word and Excel

About Skyland Trail:

Skyland Trail provides mental health residential and day treatment programs for teens and adults struggling with mental illnesses like depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and schizophrenia. Though struggling with their mental illness, Skyland Trail patients have entered treatment voluntarily, and clients and their families are engaged in their treatment program. Skyland Trail campuses include gardens, private patient rooms, and common rooms that provide a therapeutic, healing environment for our clients and families.
