Director of Development
Reports to Chief Executive Officer
Territorial Scope:
This role is an exempt, full-time, salaried position. The position’s home base will be the Enduring Hearts’ corporate office and includes a hybrid work option. Work schedule includes one to two days in the office per week (flexible), probable weekend/evening work hours for events, and travel for the purpose of donor, sponsor, event, and partner meetings.
Overall Responsibility:
The position is responsible for
1) donation cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
2) development and implementation of fundraising strategies
3) oversight of development/event staff (one position)
4) key collaboration in building marketing/social media and communication strategies with Marketing Coordinator and Research/Program Coordinator
5) collaboration with and oversight of volunteers/Board task forces/committees/working groups and event volunteers
Areas of responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develops mutually beneficial and revenue-generating partnership and sponsorship opportunities with companies by linking the EH mission with a firm's philanthropic objectives
- Participates in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship process for individual, corporate donations, and major gifts prospects
- Creates new partnerships opportunities with companies and individuals building relationships at all levels of the donor organization
- Manages benefactor strategies for major gift donors, corporate and foundations gifts, and campaigns throughout the year with primary responsibility for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship raising in excess of $2M dollars per year and substantial annual growth
- Provides oversight and develop team members to ensure revenue goals are met
- Acts as a strategist with volunteer management, maintain positive relationships with volunteers that assist the organization internally and with events
- Leads donor outreach projects and solicitation of gifts and in-kind donations
- Oversees fundraising campaigns and peer-to-peer initiatives, such National Giving Tuesday campaign, including Board giving.
- Develops compelling sponsorship proposals detailing benefits, recognition, and activation packages; executes agreements, and ensures fulfillment.
- Participates in and coordinates networking events to build upon existing and new relationships
- Develops specific campaigns and initiatives to engage new targeted communities as we expand our donor base.
- Develops strategies to maximize event revenue and identifies opportunities for additional revenue gained through events.
- Oversees team to ensure achievement of event revenue targets.
- Stewards donors at events and post-events.
- Ensures effective account management of donor portfolios and repeat large-giving donors.
- Produces progress reports to ensure accurate, clear, and detailed records of fundraising, and ensures that pertinent information is analyzed and communicated to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors
- Creates, maintains, and monitors revenue forecasts while analyzing actual results for report to the CEO, Board, and/or related committees.
- Develops strategies to surpass goals or adjust for shortfalls.
- Ensures budget and actual expenses are monitored to achieve goals and best return on investment with regular reports on budget variances and drivers for variances
Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Expectations:
- Requires a minimum of 5+ years fundraising experience, experience with planned giving initiatives, major gifts, and special events management.
- A minimum of 3+ years managerial experience and oversight of development staff
- Bachelor’s Degree Required (Business, Nonprofit Administration, Marketing, or similar)
- Proven capabilities in resolving escalated issues arising from operations.
- Excellent verbal and people skills, public speaking experience
- Ability to work well with diverse groups.
- Experience measuring sales/fundraising data, outcomes of events to determine effectiveness; and managing and tracking donor contributions data.
- Strong decision-making skills which assess risk and reward
- Strong organizational skills with excellent diligence
- Exemplary work ethic
- Excellent knowledge of Nonprofit and Microsoft software applications as well as CRM management, Peer-to-Peer solutions, event management software, marketing platforms, and others (i.e., Salesforce, Flipcause, OneCause, etc.)
- 15-25% travel anticipated.
