Since July 2022, the LAA food pantry has distributed 84,142 pounds of food households in the community. The LAA Lead Food Pantry Volunteer will help the Family Stabilization and Well-Being staff serve our families to make sure that they have access to their next meal. 

Volunteer Role Outcomes

  1. Join the fight in eliminating food insecurity in metro Atlanta. Develop a working knowledge of nonprofits, operation of food pantries, leadership of volunteers, the metro Atlanta Latino community, and so much more. Gain skills related to the Spanish language and exposure to a bicultural/bilingual learning experience in the field of human service nonprofits. Serve as an integral part of the Latin American Association’s daily operation empowering Georgia’s Latino community to adapt, integrate, and thrive. Learn how to relate effectively with people of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds

THIS POSITION DOES NOT REQUIRE FULL FLUENCY IN SPANISH - HOWEVER SOME UNDERSTANDING OF SPANISH IS HELPFUL.

Volunteer duties/responsibilities for Food Pantry area:

  1. Assess the inventory of products in the food pantry to identify product needs. Ensure the food pantry is clean, organized, tidy, and safe. Monitor food product expiration/”use by”/”best before dates” and refrigeration temperatures Ensure preparation of food packets for weekly food distributions Help ensure client food pantry access data is recorded Keep LAA Family Stabilization and Well-Being staff informed of food pantry inventory to help Assist case manager in planning appointments for clients to receive food. Aid in facilitation of large-scale food distribution events

 

 

Requirements:

 

    • Must be available at least 10 hours/week to volunteer with at least 6-8 hours of those hours in-person – you can enlist a fellow volunteer to be your number two
    • Must be available most of the next three months
    • Excellent written, oral presentation and interpersonal skills
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to details
    • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds
    • High level of proficiency in computer use (email, internet, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point).
