Job Summary:
Respite Care Atlanta is seeking a motivated and high-energy Program Assistant to assist in the planning and execution of its day program for adults with cognitive challenges, including providing administrative support to leadership and helping prep program activities. This part-time position will report to the Program Manager of Respite Care Atlanta.

Respite Care Atlanta is a 501(c)(3) volunteer-driven respite program that provides an engaging, fun, spiritual environment for adults with cognitive challenges while facilitating relief, education, and community support for their caregivers. Our mission is to provide families with an affordable, community-based, social-recreational program for respite care. A virtually all-volunteer staff is the driving force behind this respite program. Overall Description:
The Program Assistant will assist and support the Program Manager in all aspects of Respite Care Atlanta’s adult day program, Club RCA, including (1) prepping for program activities; (2) executing activities during program days; and (3) providing administrative support to leadership.
Reports to: Program Manager
Hours: 8:00am – 3:00pm, Monday – Wednesday
Responsibilities:
- Administrative tasks
- creating member files
- updating program paperwork for new members
- creating volunteer onboarding folders
- assisting in the creation of educational materials
- Activity tasks
- prep program activities
- execute daily program activities, including arts/recreation/cognitive exercises
- Volunteer management
- Ensure volunteers are executing tasks per RCA best practices
- General program support
- setting up the program space
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED
- Bachelor’s degree (Elementary Education, Human Services, Gerontology, Non-Profit Administration, or related field) preferred
- One or more years combined experience in Alzheimer’s/Dementia Care, Senior Recreation Programming and management are preferred.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid (required before start date)
- Physically able to assist respite care participants, set up activities, and lead exercises as required.
- Experience with volunteer management preferred
- A passion for working with the older adult population
Skills:
- Proficient using Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Excel, MailChimp, Social Media platforms
- Ability to organize, manage and supervise volunteers effectively
- Good rapport with spouses, family members, caregivers, and volunteer
- Strong knowledge of characteristics of dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and other conditions causing cognitive difficulties
- Awareness of signs of elder abuse and mistreatment
- Sensitivity to volunteer/caregiver/participant spiritual beliefs; programming to creeds represented.
