NBAF (National Black Arts Festival) is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization with a legacy of providing stellar artistic and educational programs in music, dance, film, visual arts, theater, and the literary arts. Celebrated within and outside of Atlanta, NBAF is recognized as the oldest multidisciplinary arts organization in the United States focused exclusively on the arts and on artists of African descent. Through its annual public programs, world-class performances, commissioned works, visual arts programs, and its arts education and public programs, NBAF offers local, national and international audiences experiences that are extraordinary and enriching. 

Now we are looking for a passionate, professional, and experienced individual to join our team as our part-time Bookkeeper.

Responsibilities for Bookkeeper

  • Perform payroll functions in an accurate and timely manner, and submit payroll taxes
  • Conduct reconciliation of all accounts on an as needed basis
  • Maintain and balance the general ledger in an accurate, complete, and up-to-date manner
  • Perform all activities related to the accounts payable function including reviewing, coding, and processing payments.
  • The creation of accounts payable thru outside accounts payable system (Bill.com).
  • Prepare budgets for proposed grant applications and reports. Maintain records and prepare reports to insurance agencies annually for compliance
  • Perform account receivable functions including invoicing, deposits, collections, and revenue recognition
  • The creation of financial transactions includes posting information to QuickBooks from invoices to customers, cash receipts, and supplier invoices.
  • Prepare financial reports through collection, analysis, and summarization of data. 
  • Must be able to prepare month end financial transactions and generates reports.
  • Assemble information for external auditors for the annual audit, as well as calculate and issue reports of financial statements.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system, as well as maintain the chart of accounts, calculate variances from the budget, and report significant issues to management Interpret and apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to all work in order to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.

Qualifications for Bookkeeper

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3-5 years relevant experience working in accounting and bookkeeping
  • Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of GAAP Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient skills in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Process and meet deadlines.
