Position Summary: 

The CEO is responsible for delivering Family Support Services' mission, vision, and values through the strategic priorities articulated by the Board of Directors and in keeping with best practices and standards established by the organization. The position is a strategic role, focused on planning, resource development, and the delivery of high-quality services. The CEO works with the Board of Directors to set the overall direction and goals for the organization, while leading a multidisciplinary team responsible for managing all aspects of the organization, including program delivery, fund development, communications, and administrative operations.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strategic and inspiring leader who is visionary and has “big picture” perspective.

  • Executive and operational experience to successfully perform the planning, directing, reporting, and managerial responsibilities of the position.

  • Demonstrated success in and knowledge of public funding and private fundraising, including an understanding of public grant-making, grant-writing and compliance.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in nonprofit finance, budgeting and cash flow in order to appropriately monitor, interpret, and manage organizational finances.

  • Accomplished public speaking ability and finesse in developing sustainable donor network.

  • Demonstrated interest in and understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion and the ability to lead a team of people with these principals in mind.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to listen.

  • Demonstrated success in leading organizations.

  • Knowledge of government regulations as they apply to the organization.

  • Ability to design a structure and work environment that develops and empowers staff, engages team members, and creates the energy and enthusiasm to fulfill Family Support Services’ mission.

  • Knowledge, experience, and understanding of the social service/human service sector; and

  • Knowledgeable about the Bay Area with established local networks and/or demonstrated ability to develop connections and partnerships with the community.

 

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or greater in business administration, social service, nonprofit management or related field (graduate degree preferred).

  • Minimum 10 years experience in a leadership role in a complex organization, with proven ability in planning, team-building, fundraising, and operational delivery.

  • Some combination of comparable education and work experience can be substituted for the above.

 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and/or sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Some statewide travel is required.
