Manager, Individual Giving

Location: Flexible (Remote within the United States)

About the position:  

The Individual Giving team works across all units to support strategic fundraising from high-net-worth individual (HNWI) donors. We seek out new funding opportunities and support existing relationships between JFF and high-capacity donors by doing prospective funder research, identifying and assessing funding opportunities as well as raising JFF’s visibility among donor networks. JFF is highly regarded among institutional funders, postsecondary institutions and learning providers, and major employers as a vital actor at the intersection of research, policy, and practice with a focus on systems change. The Individual Giving team will be central to JFF’s ability to build capacity and impact under-resourced communities for generations to come. 

Reporting to the Senior Director, Individual Giving and Engagement, in this newly created role the Manager will help the team build an entirely new and robust individual giving practice. This person will also work closely with the Senior Director to identify and track high-net-worth individual (HNWI) donors. The Manager will be a key member of the team as they will be supporting JFF in building a bold, aspirational, and successful individual giving practice and donor engagement program to provide critical unrestricted and organizational capacity investments that will help JFF realize an ambitious vision for impact. What you'll do:   

Individual Giving Activities   

  • Work closely with Senior Prospect Researcher to prepare individual donor and prospect briefings for President and CEO, CDO, and Senior Director of Individual Giving and Engagement   Participate in strategy, planning, and implementation of individual giving program activities   Coordinate logistics and prepare all materials for individual donor and prospect meetings    Generate and track all individual donor acknowledgement letters   Respond to individual donor inquiries and requests for assistance   Assist Senior Director, Individual Giving and Engagement by attending events/meetings to support in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding HNWI donors and prospects  Support the Senior Director in creating and implementing systems for the individual giving program 

Communications & Events  

  • Cultivate strong working relationships with JFF staff including the Events team to support individual giving related activities for JFF events such as Horizons, the organization’s annual conference 
  • Serve as the point person for all individual major donor cultivation events (about 5 per year) which includes coordinating event logistics, maintaining guest lists and invitation lists, preparing event materials and working with Senior Prospect Researcher to gather attendee profiles and briefings   Attend and participate in development events and meetings   Maintain individual giving calendar of activities 

Donor Data Management   

  • Track individual donor and prospect engagement activity in database, including event attendance and notes from meetings or correspondence with JFF staff  Maintain accurate records for all individual donors and prospects  
  • Analyze and strategically segment donor data and generate regular reports  

Who you are:   

  • You possess high energy and passion for JFF’s mission and the ability to apply JFF’s core values to all areas of your work  You bring approximately 3 years of professional experience with prior exposure to supporting fundraising/marketing, or other administrative processes which include supporting a development team  You are a flexible self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to seamlessly pivot between being an individual contributor and working in close collaboration with teammates and cross-functional stakeholders; you know when to pull in others for their expertise and how to manage up and across in order to complete projects 
  • You are comfortable with changing deadlines and can maintain focus when confronted with shifts in priorities and competing deadlines   You pay attention to detail, are extremely organized and are committed to accuracy with the ability to take initiative, and have a desire to complete work accurately   You possess effective communication skills and can communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing while being comfortable handling confidential information with discretion  You are comfortable leading conversations and building relationships with external high-stake individuals  You have experience using a fundraising CRM (Salesforce experience preferred), and are adept at using project management software  You are a curious and adaptive learner with a track record of quickly getting up to speed, whether you are building content expertise or learning new tools (i.e., database management concepts; familiarity with technology-enabled or –based process management systems a plus)  You are driven by results and informed by data. You know how to identify problems and create informed and comprehensive strategies to make progress and get results

This includes traveling to the Boston office to meet with the Development Team and participate in both team and organizational retreats, as needed. (Note: JFF requires Covid vaccination for all work-related travel.)
