Title: Giving and Stewardship Manager

Reports to: the Director of Giving

Position Summary

The Giving and Stewardship Manager will be part of a dynamic team of professionals devoted to raising funds to advance Atlanta Humane Society’s purpose and mission and contributing to the achievement of annual revenue goals. This individual carries out generalist fundraising practices with a primary focus on raising funds and stewarding individual donors who give at the Guardian’s Circle level ($1,000-$9,999) annually. This role serves as a central point of contact for internal and external donor-related inquiries or support. Additionally, this position supports other team members to carry out events and activities, such as the Bow Wow Brunch gala, Day of Giving, and annual Golf Classic.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Strategically implement all aspects of Guardian’s Circle stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation, including managing mailings, stewardship event logistics, major donor acknowledgement letters, donor tours, etc.
  • Manage and execute the annual stewardship calendar for Guardian’s Circle donors ($1,000-$9999).
  • Manage stewardship events, including pre-event preparation, onsite event activities and post-event follow-up.
  • Develop and manage individual relationships with major donors.
  • Maintain a portfolio of approximately 50-75 Guardian’s Circle donors who are more closely stewarded and solicited.
  • Move donors through the Moves Management pipeline.
  • Collaborate closely with Direct Mail team, Strategic Philanthropy Team, marketing, finance, and other departments to create and mail solicitations, manage donor correspondence, and track progress towards goals.
  • Serve as main point of contact for all donor-related questions/correspondence, regardless of giving level.
  • When appropriate, loop in appropriate team members from other departments
  • Manage the Guardian’s Circle expense budget and track revenue goals. Implement growth strategies to increase Guardian’s Circle membership and increase giving and retention among existing members, including implementing small cultivation events, facilitating small donor-hosted dinner parties, and more.
  • Create a volunteer “committee” of Guardian’s Circle members who can be called upon to support revenue goals, increase membership, and guide strategic Guardian’s Circle activities.
  • Assist with developing and updating fundraising collateral and stewardship materials (proposals, reports, presentations, etc.) for print and online, including writing and editing language.
  • Maximize build out and use of Salesforce NPSP platform to track and manage Guardian’s Circle fundraising program.
  • Maintain and update Guardian’s Circle data in Salesforce, including entering donor information, recording event attendance, and other actions.
  • Work closely with Finance Team on gift processing to ensure Guardian’s Circle gifts are appropriately coded and tracked towards goals.
  • Create templates monthly for acknowledgement letters to donors at the $9999 level and under (both Guardian’s Circle and under $1000 levels) with updated stories and content.
  • Mail acknowledgment letters and thank donors twice per week. Follow up with phone calls, thank you notes, and other customized communication.
  • Manage all aspects of Memorial Programs, including coordination and donor follow-up.
  • Support Special Events Manager and other team members with signature events, including Bow Wow Brunch, Day of Giving, and the Golf Classic.
  • Embody excellent customer service that creates and heightens lasting relationships with individuals, as well as AHS staff, to meet Atlanta Humane Society’s overall goals and objectives.
  • The communications responsibilities for this position require close attention to detail, strategy, thoughtful analysis, strong grammar and punctuation skills, knowledge of grammar rules, the ability to work on multiple projects and collaborate with multiple people, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, often unpredictable environment.
  • Obtain thorough understanding of AHS volunteer policies and procedures with ability to oversee volunteer involvement with administrative tasks.   
  • Other support as requested.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize assignments, work independently, show initiative, and make effective, timely decisions, despite tight deadlines and competing requirements.
  • Working knowledge of data-gathering techniques and ability to analyze data and information. Prepare documents including metrics, spreadsheets, PowerPoints.
  • Experience coordinating major donor tours and special events, including securing location, planning menus and making arrangements with caterers and vendors. Also, compose invitation list and track RSVPs.
  • Knowledge of development best practices.
  • Knowledge of Moves Management and Direct Mail Fundraising techniques.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as required for special events.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to use mature judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with donors, volunteers, staff, and senior administrators.
  • Strong customer service approach, diplomacy, and the ability to calmly handle sensitive and at times adverse situations.
  • Possess a high level of computer literacy, including experience using Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or another CRM software
  • Minimum of three-five years of development experience.
