Title: Financial Strategy Analyst

Reports To: Director of Finance

Location: US Home Based Office

Status: Full Time; Exempt

Facing History and Ourselves is a global education non-profit organization that challenges teachers and students to use lessons of history to stand up to bigotry and hate. 

The Financial Strategy Analyst is responsible for tackling key strategic questions with the organization in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer and the Director of Finance by breaking down the problem, analyzing the data, and delivering recommendations with supporting implementation plans. This position will work in close collaboration with internal stakeholders across all levels of the organization.

We are a small team with a big impact. We are currently in an ambitious five-year strategic plan and are responsible for accurately, ethically and efficiently managing the organization's financial resources. We work closely with the President's office, Board, Finance and Audit Committees to set the annual budget and ensure we stay on track. We collaborate with all other departments from managing and reporting out on grants to processing payroll.  We utilize Accufund, Paylocity, and other systems and databases to support our financial operations.

Specific Responsibilities Include: 

  • Provide financial analysis and  recommendations on initiatives/program/opportunities including cost identification and allocation, revenue/expense analysis, and pricing

  • Synthesize disparate data into meaningful analysis in support of growth and impact goals

  • Consult with staff to develop and create financial reports that will assist them in the analysis of their business and decision making

  • Determine drivers of various operational and programmatic metrics and income statement line items including detailed expense analysis

  • Develop realistic KPIs for that will help with decision making

  • Create and propose scenarios, financial modeling and frameworks that allow program, development and other staff to drive to greater impact in their work

  • Present financial information for management to better understand the financial and operational performance of the business lines

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and key metrics to monitor performance across key indicators

  • Support accounting and grant reporting and perform other duties as needed

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or other related field

  • Minimum of three years experience with at least one year in non-profit accounting or a combination of education and work experience that meet the required expectations

  • Fluency in excel-based financial modeling

  • Data analytics experience a must

  • Proven experience communicating complex analyses to different audiences

  • Knowledge of Salesforce, Sage or similar accounting platform preferred

  • Passion for the work of Facing History and the field of education

  • Must possess an insatiable curiosity and determination to deliver on high impact goals. Able to move forward with imperfect information

  • Customer service oriented

  • Ability to:

    Develop frameworks for evaluating problems and have the technical skills to run an analysis to ground

Distill complex topics and communicate them clearly to a variety of audiences

Maneuver through a complex organization and understand the need to begin every project plan with the change management roadmap.

Work with numerous stakeholders and lead projects without official authority.

Meet resistance with good humor and a back-up plan

Hybrid Work Model: Facing History and Ourselves works in a hybrid model allowing staff flexibility in both schedules and work locations. This particular position will work from home.  Some travel required.
