About the Massachusetts Charter Public School Association (MCPSA)

Founded in 2001, MCPSA is a membership organization representing 70 charter public schools (serving 46,000 students) across the state. Collectively, Massachusetts charter public schools are widely recognized as one of the highest performing charter sectors in the country. MCPSA has an extensive history of supporting and advocating for charter public schools, with the mission of creating and protecting the conditions that will enable the charter sector to thrive, contributing toward the common goal of all children having equitable access to high-quality schools.

MCPSA believes that since its inception, the K-12 public education system has been utilized as a tool to advance and protect systemic racism. From withholding education from enslaved peoples, to separate and unequal segregated schools, to the use of local property taxes and manipulated municipal boundaries as the basis for public education funding, systemic racism has and continues to impact children’s educational opportunities. Our commitment to racial equity is reflected in our Equity Vision and in the work that we do.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, the Operations Manager will work closely with the entire MCPSA team and provide essential cross-organizational project management support and execution for our advocacy, communications, and school support services. Acting as the administrative point of contact, organizing meetings and events, managing data, and offering outstanding clerical and customer service to our staff and members, are among the key components of this position.

Responsibilities Include:

Operations

  • Maintain MCPSA’s internal meetings and calendars to optimize time and to facilitate the exchange of information.
  • Respond to all inquiries and requests in a timely and professional manner, always displaying the highest level of service and support.
  • Provide bookkeeping support including accounts payable coding, expense reporting, budget tracking, document organization, and other tasks as needed.
  • Travel to the Hudson office on a weekly basis for mail processing, including management of the bank deposit process.
  • Other administrative and operations tasks and projects, as assigned by the Senior Operations Manager or Senior Leadership Team.

Project and Events Management

  • In partnership with the Senior Operations Manager or other project leads, develop project plans, and coordinate and execute all operational functions to ensure the success of internal and external events, including Board and committee activities.
  • Assume responsibility for the entire life cycle of large bi-annual membership events, including planning and execution.
  • Provide administrative support for remote and in-person professional development trainings.
  • Act as an additional pair of hands for unique and recurring projects.
  • Provide administrative, scheduling, expense tracking, and special project support to the Executive Director.

Technology and Data Management

  • Partner with Senior Operations Manager on CRM platform maintenance and administration, as well as creation and maintenance of internal contact lists and other data spreadsheets, ensuring data integrity and consistency, and developing/refining processes.
  • Demonstrate mastery of MCPSA’s data management and technology tools and provide training and troubleshooting support to staff on a variety of technology issues.

Facilities and Office Management

  • Manage the MCPSA office, including procurement and maintenance of office supplies and equipment.
  • Act as point-of-contact for office or facility issues and vendors, and ensure that the office is clean, organized, and prepared for professional use at all times.

Qualifications

  • You believe in MCPSA’s mission and values, and are committed to supporting the communities we serve.
  • You are driven, adaptable, highly self-motivated and have a strong sense of ownership.
  • You enjoy project management and have a knack for building or maintaining systems that help you—and others—stay organized and pride yourself on your attention to detail.
  • You can manage a high volume of work efficiently because you plan ahead, stay focused, troubleshoot, and ask for help when needed.
  • You catch and fix errors (because nobody is perfect, including you) and turn mistakes into learning opportunities. Because of this, you have a track record of leaving things in better shape than you found them.
  • You welcome feedback from colleagues and the people you support, and you work to integrate new ideas and make improvements.
  • You are creative and enthusiastic about meeting and event execution.
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and when you have feedback or information for others, you aim to be clear and helpful.
  • You strive to build authentic relationships with others (internally and externally) based on mutual trust and respect, especially and including when there are lines of difference (across race, ethnicity, status, sexual orientation, ability, or gender identity).
  • You are proficient with spreadsheets and have experience with a variety of cloud technologies, including data management systems, Google Workspace and project management platforms.
  • While you may not have experience with all aspects of this job, you bring at least 2 years of comparable professional experience.
