Working collaboratively with the Director of Development, the Communications Manager will help set and implement a communications plan that highlights the work of Intown’s on the ground teams, assists the Development Department with fundraising narrative, and places Intown within the continuum of Homeless Services and Food Programs in the City of Atlanta.

The position requires strong experience with marketing and communications platforms, content creation, and media and news engagement.  The Communications Manager must be a strategic, energetic individual with creativity, initiative, imagination, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and have experience and demonstrated success in digital, social media, and traditional communications and marketing campaigns.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • At least 2 years of related work experience in communications, marketing, or public relations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including compelling storytelling, grammar, and proofreading skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, MailChimp, and database management software
  • Graphic design and video production experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • With the Director of Development, develop and execute an annual communications plan to support organizational rebranding, programs, and events to raise awareness, engagement, and financial support.
  • Create compelling and varied written and graphic content for the organization’s website, printed publication, social media channels, email campaigns, printed advertising, and special event scripts.
  • Manage entirety of communications and marketing projects, including idea generation, design, feedback, approval, and implementation. Understand, track, and manage relationships with a broad base of community partners and investors, including faith-based institutions, print and online media sources, neighborhood groups, local businesses, foundations.
  • With the Director of Development and Executive Director, set opportunities to act as an ambassador to increase awareness of Intown’s mission, issues of homelessness and hunger in Atlanta through public speaking and news engagements.

Work Hours & Position Status

The Communications Manager is a part-time, 20 hour per week salaried position. Depending on performance, the Communications Manager may become a full-time, 40 hours per week position.  Most hours will be during normal business hours (between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) but may also include some evening, early morning, and weekend hours. There is some flexibility in start-time and possible work-from-home days.

Travel

Travel is not anticipated for the Communications Manager.  If work-related travel is necessary, Intown will reimburse mileage at the federal mileage rate.

Supervision

The Communications Manager reports to the Director of Development.  Supervision will take place at least monthly during regular business hours.

Compensation

Salary starts at $24,000 per year and is commensurate with experience. Compensation also includes generous paid leave policy and one paid artistic-day per year, where staff pursue personal artistic endeavors.  As a part-time position, the Communications Manager is not eligible for employer-sponsored health benefits, including vision and dental insurance.
