We serve more than 1,300 Scholars in 5th through 12th grades, and 130 Teaching Fellows, across eight sites utilizing an evidence-based "students-teaching-students" model.

Expanding the development team, this newly established Development Director position at Breakthrough Miami, will support the advancement of the organization through increased fundraising, with a focus on corporate sponsorships.
 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Director will support the advancement functions of the organization, including building, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of donors for annual and multi-year gifts. The Director will focus on growing corporate giving. Responsibilities will include direct fundraising, fundraising activities coordination, stewardship and advancement-related administrative support in order to strengthen our work with donors and partners, thereby advancing mission, programs and impact. The successful candidate will be authentically committed to mission, and be a strategic, flexible, and positive thinker responsible for direct fundraising. This is a full-time position and reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a personal portfolio ($1M) of corporate donors
  • Build meaningful engaged partnerships with corporations, securing corporate giving and facilitating employee engagement and stewardship
  • Develop and manage corporate/industry relations partnership program
  • Manage fundraising activities relating to industry partners - initiate, plan and coordinate prospect and donor cultivation, proposals and Letters of Inquiry, solicitations, reporting and stewardship of gifts
  • Craft corporate partner benefits packages and proposals
  • Lead oversight of gifts and grants from corporations and partners
  • Develop and execute a strategic annual work plan and matrix to manage portfolio, goal-setting and tracking
  • Stays abreast of trends, best practices and strategies to secure corporate gifts and sponsorships
  • Support stewardship, engagement and fundraising events
  • Receive and respond to donor inquiries with friendliness and efficiency
  • Work collaboratively with all staff to achieve Breakthrough Miami’s mission and goals
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to work evenings and weekends, and access to reliable transportation are all required to fulfill the expectations of the role. 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of direct fundraising experience with proven results

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the gift process and donor cycle
  • Ability to effectively inspire and solicit giving - not afraid to make donor calls
  • Knowledge of fundraising reports, tracking and goal-setting
  • Ability to maintain concurrent projects, set priorities and follow-through on both long-term and short term deadlines
  • Ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment
  • Positive spirit, optimistic attitude, and professional demeanor
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, flexible, team environment
  • Proven ability to write donor communications, including appeals and acknowledgments
  • Self-directed
  • Digital proficiency
  • Communicate consistently and effectively
  • Sets high personal standards, follows through on commitments and models fairness and transparency in all interactions
  • Proficient in CRM database skills (e.g. Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce)
  • High level of proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Google Sheets/Google Docs

OTHER SUCCESS FACTORS:

  • Familiarity with issues of educational equity
  • Skilled in social media and other marketing areas
  • Bilingual or Multilingual (e.g. - Spanish/Portuguese/Italian/Russian)
