What you will do:

  • In collaboration with the Federal TA Team Leadership (2 Directors and 2 Associate Directors), provide strategic vision and thought leadership to identify, create, broaden, and engage in opportunities to accomplish the teams’ goals.   Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of staff.
  • Lead the Federal TA team’s large, high-profile HUD-funded initiatives (work focused on several communities simultaneously and targeted on a central topic or TA strategy) including overseeing the direction of the work, monitoring and evaluating the deployment and performance of project staff, and ensuring all assigned projects are completed within scope, budget, and timeframe. This role also involves communicating regularly with Federal partners, pitching new ideas to Federal partners, meeting reporting requirements and reviewing and approving invoices. Contribute to Fed TA leadership and decision-making in partnership with the Federal TA Team Leadership. Including: working collaboratively with fund development on the HUD TA NOFO for funding and other funding applications; working with HR on hiring, professional development, and learning strategies for the team; and working with finance on the annual budget process, billing, and reporting.
  • Manage projects ensuring clearly defined team roles, on-time and on-budget deliverables, and delivery of quality products. CSH expects project managers to foster a work environment based on quality teamwork, mutual accountability, and high-quality performance.  
  • Create and deliver in-person and virtual technical assistance (TA), trainings, and facilitation. In all TA, incorporate an emphasis on racial equity and community ownership, to prioritize and advance racial equity in all CSH led projects by addressing racial disparities in housing and services, and to engage and collaborate with communities of color, culturally specific organizations, and persons with lived experience.
  • Support the Director in preparing and monitoring projects, grants, contracts, and annual budgets. 
  • Supervise a team of staff and support their project work and professional development.  
  • Identify opportunities and learnings from projects, to disseminate recommendations and impact across CSH teams and regions, making appropriate connections to share knowledge, experience, and advice. Support business development and team work planning.

Specifically, we are seeking:

  • Knowledge and experience in the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Continuum of Care (CoC), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), Special Purpose Vouchers, HOME, CDBG, or CDBG-Disaster Recovery.  Experience in supportive housing, affordable housing, behavioral and primary healthcare, community development and/or related fields a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. This includes lived experience of homelessness, housing instability, mental health services, participation in housing programs, etc. and professional and/or volunteer experience in the homelessness field.
  • Demonstrated leadership, management skills and the high level decision-making necessary to advance and realize CSH’s vision and further advance the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color, in the consideration of impacts and outcomes of a decision-making process.
  • Ability to facilitate discussions and train large size groups both virtually and in-person
  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias, white dominant culture and structures of power, and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities is preferred.
  • Project management experience, with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills and the ability to manage project teams, project budgets and deadlines with moderate supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, facilitation and training, active listening, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socially diverse communities.
  • CSH uses a Microsoft Office environment. Proficiency is required or a commitment to self-learn and achieve proficiency upon hire.
  • Candidates seeking to work remotely, or hybrid must provide their own access to a secure high-speed internet signal (preferably hard wired) at a capacity sufficient to support video, web, and email processing simultaneously based on their personal work environment. This is typically 100Mb and above.
  • Frequent local, regional and national travel required. Travel ranges by position and geography, but for this position is estimated between 20-40%.

Compensation:
CSH offers generous benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and competitive salaries based on geographic location. Our range for the Associate Director is as follows:

  • AD in highest geography (E.G. New York City, Bay Area, Seattle): $117,000 - $146,000 
  • AD in mid-range geography (E.G. Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver): $106,000 - $132,000
  • AD in lower mid-range geography (E.G. Minneapolis, Portland, Austin, Las Vegas): $100,000 - $125,000
  • AD in low-range geography (E.G. Indianapolis, Columbus, Richmond, Nashville, Atlanta, Tampa, Phoenix): $92,000 - $115,000

Our ranges are broad, and it is customary for candidates to join CSH at the lower half of the range to leave room for growth, learning, and development in the role and range. It is uncommon for starting salaries to fall above the mid-point. We negotiate actual salaries with final candidates based on their exact location, experience in similar roles, and expertise related to the qualifications.
