Job Description

General Job Description:

 

Douglas County Task Force (DCTF) is seeking new and experienced Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) to join a dedicated sexual assault response team. This is a contract position with 12-hour shifts, monthly sign-up to fit your schedule, and on-call pay incentive.  The ideal candidate would be responsible for and accountable for providing evidence-based clinical care to designated patients utilizing the nursing process. This is accomplished by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care according to established ethical/cultural codes and standards of nursing practices and working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to achieve patient outcomes.

 

Specific Duties:

 

To collect and preserve forensic evidence from the sexual assault victim as directed by the National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations and by Georgia law, using a GBI-approved forensic collection kit. Performs speculum exams and assessments. Utilizes thorough knowledge of anatomy and body structures and mechanisms and patterns of injury. Utilizes a thorough knowledge on collecting and managing forensic evidence with a Sexual Assault Exam Collection (SAEC) kit and a Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault kit (DFSA). Provide detailed documentation of patient's medical history and physical examination as per standards of Georgia and National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations. Interacts and collaborates with medical and nursing staff, law enforcement, prosecutor, protective services, advocates and other agencies as needed. Provide photographic evidence of patient's injuries resulting from the sexual assault Provide written discharge instructions, recommended follow-up medical care, medication information, and community resources for patient. Administer medication for the prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections Assess and document patient's safety. Maintain confidential files of all forensic examinations performed. Provide law enforcement with documentation within forty-eight (48) hours of exam. Serve as witness for court system as needed. Be active and committed to peer reviews regarding case histories and participate in educational opportunities.

Attends continuing education as a sexual assault nurse. Utilizes clear and concise written documentation skills and articulates clearly. Utilizes appropriately use of a camera in regards to photo documentation of injuries and/or evidence. Provides court testimony as needed. Utilizes current knowledge base regarding legislation and government programs and best practice standards of care. Attend MDT and case review meetings.

Qualifications:

 

Must maintain Georgia nursing licensure as a registered nurse Hold a certificate of successful completion from a SANE-A/SANE-P education and training program that is compliant with the education and training guidelines of the IAFN.  SANE-A is required.  If the nurse does not currently hold this educational piece, still apply, we may be able to assist with getting the training completed. Maintain a working knowledge of the current National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations Must be able to report to our location in Newnan within one hour Maintain private liability insurance appropriate to licensure.
