Massachusetts residents face some of the highest costs of living in the country, leading to high rates of family homelessness. According to recent Census data, more than a third of all renter households in the state are “rent-burdened,” paying over 30% of their income to rent alone. At present, over 12,000 parents and children experience family homelessness in Massachusetts on any given night. This is the second highest rate of family homelessness in the nation, trailing only New York. Furthermore, this official number does not include the thousands more homeless families who are living doubled-up, couch surfing, or taking shelter in cars or campgrounds.

 

Families need stable income to afford stable housing but parents with low incomes face an onslaught of systemic barriers on the road to higher education, stable careers, and increased income. At One Family, our goal is to break down barriers to education and career access, so that families experiencing financial instability and homelessness and can achieve financial independence and long-term housing stability.

 

As Coaching Manager, you will help One Family address the issue of family homelessness from all sides. You will supervise two of our three core programs - One Family Scholars(OFS) and Credential to Career(C2C) Coaching that will help families experiencing or at risk of homelessnesshomelessless increase their income to achieve economic and housing stability.

 

This is a unique opportunity because you will serve as both a staff manager and also a coach during a portion of each day. You share a belief that all families should have access to secure housing, education that leads to employment, and the ability to build assets to create a brighter future and will support the coaches on your team in meeting these ambitious goals with clients.

Prior experience providing direct services and leading a team while delivering results is required and we look forward to receiving applications from candidates who have formal experience in these areas of work, as well as from those who have led volunteer or community groups during their free time.

 

As Coaching Manager, you will mentor, supervise, and invest in the growth of your team, which includes three Senior Coaches and three Coaches who report to them. Your core work is to provide oversight of and be accountable for the team’s performance and work towards the overarching goals of the organization’s programmatic goals. You will work closely with the peer Coaching Manager(1) and other members of the program team(5) and cross functionally within the organization to ensure communication, collaboration, and success across One Family departments. You will also serve as a coach for up to ten clients in our core programs, and will participate in our Training & Technical Assistance work.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO

The key responsibilities of this position include:

 

  • Oversee, develop, and support six Coaches to achieve goals in partnership with clients

  • Manage program and Training and Technical Assistance design, delivery and expenditures, ensuring alignment with goals and compliance with grant/partner agreements

  • Collaborate with the Data & Reporting Manager in developing, monitoring and evaluating the program team’s work and outcomes by designing and implementing surveys, dashboards and reports.

  • Ensure required records and documentation are maintained in a timely manner and in compliance with the organization’s policies

  • Serve as a partner and champion as clients set goals and define action plans to achieve short and long-term objectives

  • In partnership with the peer Coaching Manager;
    • Hire, onboard and train Coaches, and enhance our process and related training for onboarding and offboarding Coaches

    • Set clear direction, timelines and expectations for the program team to achieve organization’s strategic priorities related to all three core programs

    • Collaborate across programs to adapt and refine workshops and coaching frameworks to ensure they meet the needs of the families we serve

This role reports to the Deputy Director.

This full-time position is based in Boston, MA. We are excited to receive applications from candidates who speak and can offer coaching in multiple languages. In particular we are looking for Coaches with fluency in Spanish and Cape Verdean Creole.

To accommodate the needs of our clients, some evening and weekend hours will be required. The Coaching Manager will need to be able to travel to One Family’s Boston office and other locations across Massachusetts based on a hybrid schedule. Expected start date for this role is February 2023.
