Farmworker Rights Attorney (Atlanta Office)

The Farmworker Rights Division of the Georgia Legal Services Program seeks a bilingual (Spanish/English) staff attorney. The Farmworker Rights Division represents low-income farmworkers on matters related to their working conditions. Due to the extensive use of the H-2A guest worker program in Georgia, a large percentage of our clients are H-2A workers with complaints related to violations of their rights under the Fair Labor Standards Act and H-2A regulations, as well as complaints related to human trafficking conditions. Our cases are actively litigated and, due to the widespread exploitation of farmworkers and lax government enforcement, there is no shortage of deserving clients and meritorious claims.
Organization Description:

The Farmworker Rights Division is based in Atlanta, Georgia and represents migrant and seasonal farmworkers in employment-related cases across the state. The office is small and has a collegial atmosphere, ideal for creative litigation.

Qualifications: The Farmworker Rights Division seeks candidates with strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills, and with a collegial demeanor. Applicants should be zealous about the enforcement of workers’ rights and should be eager to work closely with clients as they seek justice through the federal courts. This position requires meeting and interviewing clients outside of normal business hours, which requires some travel to rural Georgia. Because of our predominantly Spanish-speaking client population, oral and written Spanish language skills are required for this position.

Salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications; GLSP offers excellent fringe benefits including an employer-financed partial student loan repayment program. A statement of interest, resume, and writing sample should be submitted to jbonner@glsp.org.

GLSP is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. It is the policy of Georgia Legal Services Program not to discriminate against any applicant for employment because of race, color, ethnicity, ancestry, religion, age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, pregnancy, medical condition, national origin, disability, marital or other protected status. GLSP values a diverse work environment and strongly encourages women, people of color, people who identify as LGBTQ, people with disabilities, and people who have experienced poverty or homelessness to apply. GLSP invites all applicants to include in their cover letter a statement about how your unique background and/or experiences might contribute to the diversity, cultural vitality, and perspective of our staff and legal services practice.
