Job Summary
 
The School & Youth Programs Coordinator (SYPC) is a detail-oriented professional who is passionate about youth development, and excels at interpersonal communication and program logistics. Working with the School & Youth Programs Manager, the SYPC will support Science ATL’s school partnership and youth development goals: 1) build K-12 school capacity for transformational partnerships with local STEM companies, universities, and their employees; 2) ensure diverse representation among STEM professionals working with our youth; 3) engage with neighborhoods in zip codes with low or very low Child Well-Being; and 4) empower youth to lead community change and bring STEM opportunities to their peers.
 
The SYPC will manage relationships with student and adult participants, document and report participation data, collect and tell success stories, mentor and coach student leaders, liaise with volunteers and external partners, and coordinate event logistics under the direction of the School & Youth Programs Manager. The SYPC will lead our new Hallway Takeovers initiative, the expansion of our STEM+21CL clubs, and development of an alumni network, while supporting our growing portfolio of School & Youth programs.
 
This is a full-time position based in Atlanta, GA with a direct report to the School & Youth Programs Manager. While occasional meetings will be in person, this position is largely remote. Occasional work day travel to school/event sites and occasional evening/weekend hours are required for in-person and virtual events.
 
 
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the new Hallway Takeovers initiative to place posters of diverse local STEM professionals at 8 public schools in order to foster hometown pride in Atlanta as a Science City, and cultivate a sense of belonging in science through representation of ethnically diverse STEM professionals. 
  • Track and engage program alumni, including leading the coordination of an alumni network for the STEM Professional School Partnership program.
  • Facilitate virtual bi-monthly Chief Science Officer program meetings, manage the minigrant process, and engage with the international CSO network.
  • Support our STEM+21CLub afterschool program in partnership with 21st Century Leaders to scale up youth leadership experiences in STEM. 
  • Maintain positive relationships with student and adult participants, including mentoring and coaching student leaders, coordinating with volunteers and external partners.
  • Coordinate events and program logistics, including promotion, recruitment, enrollment, small group facilitation, training, stakeholder communications, venue rental, catering, registration, transportation, signage, collection of releases or other forms
  • Conduct site visits to participating schools.
  • Collect participation data, document measures of impact, and record stories of success for reports, publications, and/or press releases, as needed.
  • Represent Science ATL to the public and to partners with professionalism, warmth and kindness, and assist with partnership development activities including participation in community events (festivals, fairs, conferences, etc.) to deliver bite-sized innovative science activities that engage the public and promote Science ATL.
  • Maintain professional growth by learning new and best practices in this field of work.
  • Work occasional weekends and evenings, as needed for program events.
  • Assist with other tasks as needed.


Qualifications

  • Candidate should hold a post-secondary degree or certification, and have at least two years in youth programming, youth leadership development, coaching/mentoring, program/curriculum development, project management, formal or informal science education, in particular with audiences traditionally underrepresented in STEM.
  • Comfort with speaking in front of audiences and facilitating group discussions with youth and adults.
  • Outstanding customer service skills, and commitment to building positive and respectful relationships with all Science ATL stakeholders, including sponsors, board members, partners, staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to travel throughout the metro Atlanta region to visit schools and partners
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Competence with collaborative online technologies such as Google Workspace (GSuite), Zoom, AirTable, etc.
  • Seeks out and has participated in professional development opportunities
  • Elements of this job will require being able to carry/transport objects of up to 50 lbs and to work occasional weekends and evenings, as needed for programs/events.
