POSITION OVERVIEW

ProGeorgia seeks a visionary leader, exceptional writer, editor, and strategic communicator to join the team as its Communications Director. The ideal candidate will work with the ProGeorgia staff to establish and drive a multi-channel communications strategy for the table supportive of the organization’s strategic goals and in support of the collective needs of the table partners. The Communications Director will prepare and manage all communications materials, including strategies across print, radio, digital, and television; establish core messaging and coordinated campaigns; support development of team presentations and fundraising materials; and lead development of ProGeorgia’s voice and brand, maintaining integrity across all platforms. The Communications Director is also responsible for managing media relations and developing contacts with media members, influencers, and community leaders, and will lead the team of communication, marketing, and design professionals responsible for public representations of the ProGeorgia brand.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications Director, reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for the following:

Strategy Development and Content Management

●  Collaborate with ProGeorgia staff and table members to develop successful multichannel                            communications strategies.

●  Oversee and support content development for ProGeorgia’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.

●  Oversee and support management of the Executive Director’s social media accounts.

●  Lead development and implementation of communications plans for ProGeorgia and table campaigns.

●  Assess the impact of communication plans by establishing and monitoring performance metrics.

●  Track engagement across various platforms and make data-driven decisions in the furtherance of         ProGeorgia’s goals

 ●  Make key decisions and recommendations for brand strategy and growth.

 ●  Develop new and high-impact communications tactics that increase visibility and engagement.

 ●  Assist with the creation of digital, video, audio and print content.

 ●  Help manage the public image of ProGeorgia’s leadership, staff, and key partners before the media and in a supportive capacity at community events and hearings.

Relationship Building and Partner Support

● Advise and train ProGeorgia staff and coalition members on effective communications strategies,          spokesperson skills and best practices.

● Gain deep understanding of ProGeorgia and its coalition members core issues and objectives, and use the  same to advance the organizations’ core goals through innovative campaigns and communications plans.

 ● Develop and maintain strong relationships with the media.

Team Management

●  Hire a Social Media Manager and serve as their supervisor.

●  Manage Social Media Manager and their workflow including evaluating and supporting their growth.

●  Manage vendors and consultants on public relations, social media, etc.

Fiscal Management

 ● Develop and manage a communications budget for ProGeorgia and table campaigns.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Skills:

●  A strong understanding of and demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice, civic engagement and activism.

●  Knowledge of and commitment to personal growth and development on issues of racial equity and diversity and to supporting others in growth around issues of racial equity.

●  Strong relationship-building and communication skills. Experience working in coalitions and public interest organizations.

●  Demonstrated skills in building strong supervisory relationships, including setting clear expectations, coaching and training toward performance, and giving and receiving feedback.

●  A good attitude and ability to work with multiple people with multiple points of view.

●  5+ years prior experience supporting communications in a non-profit, media, or startup environment

●  Ability to participate in organizational leadership structure and provide vision for ProGeorgia’s voice and brand.

●  Highly proficient with MS Office and GSuite applications. Fluency with using social media platforms and web publishing platforms like SquareSpace and WordPress.

●  Experience with managing digital marketing campaigns. Familiarity with digital advertising, and developing campaign collateral. 

●  Excellent organizational skills with an ability to think proactively and prioritize work.

●  Experience working with underrepresented and/or diverse communities.

●  Established media relationships a plus.

Reports to: Executive Director
