A key member of the Advancement Services team, the CDC Foundation’s Prospect Research Associate is responsible for supporting CDC Foundation’s Advancement team in identifying, researching, and analyzing prospects for individual major gift and organizational cultivation and solicitation. Research and analysis serve as the foundation of Advancement operations and directly contribute to the institution’s success. The Prospect Research Associate works directly with frontline fundraiser staff to identify major donor prospects who have the propensity and capacity to support the CDC Foundation’s initiatives and campaigns. Specifically, the Prospect Research Associate works closely with the Advancement teams to research individuals, corporations, and foundations and compile data into meaningful categories; evaluate data for accuracy and relevance and prepare reports including detailed prospect profiles, and assess based on known indicators of wealth and philanthropic giving capacity. The Prospect Research Associate is also involved in proactive prospect management and generating reports in our Salesforce CRM. In addition to the prospect research responsibilities this position supports CDC Foundation’s gift compliance activities in conjunction with

CDC Foundation’s leadership and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Provides the Vice President for Advancement, CDC Foundation leadership, and other Advancement staff with the tools/reports and information required to plan and execute CDC Foundation’s advancement programs, including research, prospect management, analysis of donor histories, and reporting.

·       Proactively and independently plan and execute industry best practice strategies to identify sources of support using research techniques and electronic searching methodologies to ensure that fundraising initiatives have sufficient prospects to meet fundraising goals.

·       Develops, updates, and maintains the major gift and organizational prospect research information in the Salesforce CRM to monitor and report on prospects. Tracks top prospects to help fill the pipeline of donor prospects.

·       Develops and maintains written reports, and biographical profiles, providing basic analysis of program trends for donor and prospect visits in key geographies, as well as Board of Directors nominees.

·       Composes documents (profiles, biographies, project summaries) using style, grammar, and content appropriate to specific audiences. Interprets and translates complex language into easily comprehensible terms and interprets research to fundraisers as necessary.

·       Using creative research techniques provides high-level research on individuals, alumni, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of biographical, organizational, and financial sources, including online databases, websites, and other external repositories of public information to identify prospects.

·       Analyzes and synthesizes accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic interest, giving propensity, and connectivity. Evaluates research results to develop and implement further research strategies utilizing ethical intelligence-gathering techniques of the information profession. Identifies donor gift capacity through the analysis and clarification of complex information.

·       Assists the data team with data quality and capture improvements within our Salesforce CRM, especially for key prospect research data.

·       Acts as resident prospect research expert and administrator for all research tools and subscriptions and offers training, guidance, and troubleshooting support for Advancement staff, as needed.

·       Perform gift compliance activities that include, providing raw research of partners, providing monthly reporting and approvals for CDC project concept outlines, as well as attending weekly meetings.

·       Also creates and routes all partner reviews in accordance with our gift compliance policies and tracks all project concept outlines and partner reviews in our Salesforce CRM for tracking purposes.

·       Participate in staff activities, projects, and assignments and assume other duties as assigned.

·       Must adhere to the Code of Ethical Principles of the Association of Fund-Raising Professionals (AFP). Must be conversant in, and stay current with, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) standards, IRS regulations, and financial standards pertaining to charitable giving.

Qualifications and Skills:

·       Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and be nonprofit professionals with a minimum of three years of nonprofit experience preferably in prospect research or related role.

·       Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite and experience using constituent relationship management systems (Salesforce preferred)

·       Knowledge of the range of resources available to prospect researchers and the ability to apply those resources in an organized and purposeful manner, including wealth screening and prospect research tools, such as iWave or DonorSearch. 

·       Demonstrated analytical skills to initiate and perform complex analyses and organize information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals, corporations, and foundations. Ability to analyze and interpret complex research findings to assess affinity, capacity, and propensity to give to the CDC Foundation.

·       Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and develop proactive prospecting methodologies to support organizational goals, including data mining and sophisticated constituent database queries.

·       Results-oriented, team player, collaborative and self-motivated. Able to work with multiple departments to propel the mission forward through innovation and initiative.

·       Flexibility with a proven ability to handle changing business needs, multiple priorities, and deadlines with attention to detail. Accountability for meeting goals, objectives, and deadlines with a proactive attitude and approach to work.

·       Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

·       Discretion in handling confidential information relating to the giving history and backgrounds of donors/prospects. Must adhere to the Code of Ethical Principles of the Association of Fund-Raising Professionals (AFP). Must be conversant in, and stay current with, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) standards, IRS regulations, and financial standards pertaining to charitable giving. Familiarity with best practices from the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) is preferred.

The CDC Foundation requires all employees to be fully vaccinated* for COVID-19 as a condition of employment effective November 22, 2021. All offers of employment after that date are contingent upon proof of full-vaccination status as a part of the pre-employment process.

*Fully vaccinated is defined as follows: At least two weeks have passed since receipt of the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine, or the second dose of either the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech two-dose vaccines.
