Director of Programs and Operations

Position(Local Candidates Strongly Preferred)

 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Programs and Operations facilitates Street Smart Youth Project’s (SSYP) mission to provide high quality programs and services, which promote health and equity within under-resourced communities. The Director of Programs and Operations is responsible for providing leadership and direction on SSYP program content; implementation and evaluation of programs with emphasis on measurable outcomes using data and best practices; prioritization of programmatic objectives, activities, and budget needs; development of financial resources to support prioritized areas of work; continuation and development of team-based approaches; integration of programmatic activities as well as effective use of SSYP staff capacity; and promotion of shared accountability, effective management, and production of high-quality programs.

 

The Director of Programs and Operations works independently and collaboratively with SSYP’s leadership and management teams and staff to direct, develop, manage, and implement activities in the following areas: SSYP programming; technical assistance to government and community groups; research and evaluation; grant and contract management; communications and marketing; meeting development and implementation; and resource development. The Director of Programs and Operations position requires a proven, forward-thinking, and dynamic individual to provide proactive leadership and vision in developing new, innovative programs. This includes having excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills; strong relationships throughout the field; effective public speaking and presentation skills; as well as discretion and sound judgment. In addition, the Director should have an accomplished record of successful grant writing and fundraising. The position requires a clear understanding and empathy for the challenges faced by resource- and capacity limited communities; a firm grasp of community capacity building; and knowledge/understanding of health equity and economic and social determinants of health. The ideal candidate will want to grow with and help develop the capacity and sustainability of a community- based non- profit.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Oversee the overall operations and management of direct service programs
  • Develop, implement, and monitor goals, strategies, timelines, and metrics for each program
  • Hire, train, supervise and monitor program staff to assess performance and progress toward goals
  • Assist program staff in operational improvements and practices, making recommendations for improved structure, procedures, forms, and workflow
  • Provide Leadership and Supervision to Management and Senior Team members
  • Attend local, regional and state meetings as necessary and relevant to program goals
  • Provide positive example of leadership, teamwork and conflict resolution
  • Work in collaboration with Leadership team to plan and carry out any new projects, events or other activities
  • Conduct program evaluation to assess the achievement of goals attained during program cycle
  • Manage data collection and reporting on programs
  • Work in collaboration with Leadership team to manage and coordinate all marketing and promotional activities
  • Work in collaboration with CEO to develop and manage program budgets
  • Solicit, train, and manage program volunteers
  • Identify, develop and maintain community partnerships relevant to enhancing and/or achieving program goals
  • Provide administrative and operations assistance to the CEO
  • Support the senior leadership team and staff to make consistent and progressive steps toward organizational and programmatic consistency and sustainability; effectively communicate work plans and priorities derived from the organization’s strategic plan by partnering with senior leaders to follow through with coordinated accountabilities, objectives, and associated budgets
  • Enhance organizational excellence by establishing operational benchmarks, timelines, and resources needed to achieve strategic goals, proactively recommending and driving improvements as necessary; set standards for accountability and measurements of success
  • In collaboration with the CEO and their appointee, oversee SSYP’s evaluation activities including data collection systems, longitudinal evaluation, and all contracts and activities relating to program evaluation and measurement; communicate and prepare all data collection summary reports and evaluation updates for the ED, Board of Directors, and staff
  • Develop a knowledge management system that ensures maximum sharing of information and learning throughout the organization; create an environment whereby SSYP is known as a best-in-class non- profit organization

 

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree required, preferred disciplines of Public Administration, Social Work, Public Health and/or Organizational Psychology; at least 5- 7 years of professional experience in a general management role, ideally in a rapidly evolving institution
  • Connected to Local Partners and Agencies throughout Georgia and able to secure additional partners on behalf of the organization
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to SSYP’s mission
  • Highly organized with an ability to wear multiple hats in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment; a driving force who manages toward clarity and solutions
  • Successful track record in setting priorities, shaping processes, guiding investment in people and systems, and developing an infrastructure that creates a stronger and more efficient organization
  • Thorough understanding of project management; able to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines and goals
  • Social Services leadership experience(behavioral health, public health, youth development)
  • Open, transparent and conflict resolution oriented
  • Consummate team player with a flexible and creative approach
  • Culturally competent and knowledgeable of oppressive system impact
  • Excellent communication and coalition building skills with an ability to balance, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; high level of knowledge and understanding of program replication, connecting programs to funding, creatively generating
