Summary:

We have an exceptional opportunity for a Senior Editor who will be responsible for providing communications advice, professional editing, writing and project management for program area communications in a variety of media; ensures effectiveness and alignment of external communications with the program area’s goals and objectives.

What does a Senior Editor do?

  • Coordinates communication services for SREB’s Office of School Improvement, including managing projects with other Communications staff through design, digital media, printing and dissemination.
  • Works closely with School Improvement leadership to understand the offices programs, services and priorities. Consults on communications strategy to support priorities, and implements tactics to accomplish results. Works closely with authors to plan, revise drafts and finalize documents for publication, to include developmental editing, copy editing, and proofreading, for AP, APA and SREB editorial style and graphic standards.
  • Manages and writes web content for SREB's web, email and social media platforms to support products, services and events.
  • Coordinates Promising Practices newsletters: Plans content and schedule, assigns or writes stories, collaborates with graphic designer, analyzes readership analytics, and recommends improvements.
  • Collaborates with other SREB staff to connect communications about School Improvement programs and services with other communication efforts across SREB.

What does it take to be a Senior Editor?

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field; AND four years of professional experience in journalism or editing; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

For this opportunity, we seek candidates who have knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of communications and marketing communication strategy. Communication production and dissemination techniques and methods.
  • Principles and practices of project and program management.
  • AP Style.
  • Principles and practices of editing materials and documents for completeness, effectiveness, accuracy and accessibility.

For this opportunity, we seek candidates who have skill in:

  • Reviewing materials, communications and documents for completeness and effectiveness.
  • Producing effective written and graphic materials for a variety of informational and communication purposes.
  • Managing multiple projects and priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Using Microsoft Office, content management systems and other platforms for email and social media.
