The Center for Puppetry Arts is accepting resumes for Associate Puppet Shop Builder. The Associate Builder is responsible for assisting the Resident Puppet Builder in operations of the Puppet Shop including, but not limited to:

  • Construction of all new puppets used in Center shows and Special Projects
  • Repair and Refurbishment of existing show puppets
  • Maintenance of all puppets in the Center shows running currently
  • Work closely with the Resident Puppet Builder to achieve the realization for the artistic goals of each production Assist in the load-in and strike of puppets for productions as required
  • Manage the maintenance, safety, and organization of the Puppet Shop
  • Assist with tool maintenance in the Puppet Shop
  • Maintain show documentation for Puppets, Props, Costumes used per show
  • Work within assigned budgets for each project
  • Assist in the upkeep and arrangement of the Warehouse Puppet Storage area
  • Assist in research, purchasing, and inventory of materials
  • Manage Overhire puppet builders, costumers, or interns as needed including scheduling, work stations, and project management
  • Participate in promotion marketing efforts as needed
  • Other duties as need by the Center for Puppetry Arts

Qualifications

  • Puppet and Prop building, Costume and Craft Construction Skills which include:
  • Sewing: hand and machine
  • Patterning
  • Foam patterning and fabrication
  • Molding and casting
  • Sculpting
  • Painting
  • Basic woodworking
  • Basic knowledge of variety of puppet styles – hand, rod, marionette, mascot etc.

Desired Qualifications

Previous theater experience Strong craft skills Excellent attention to detail Experience working with a variety of materials and tools Portfolio/images of previous work scope Excellent organizational and planning skills Personnel management skills A positive attitude Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Term of Employment

 

Full-time positions with benefits: Some weekends and evenings required.
