Field & Organizing Executive Assistant

Schedule: Part-Time 25hrs a week

Location: Remote, with occasional travel

Salary Range: $40-45k with full health benefits for employee and dependents, employer-funded retirement plan, remote work stipend, and 28 days of vacation

MOVEMENT FOR BLACK LIVES

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) formed in December of 2014 was created as a space for Black organizations across the country to debate and discuss the current political conditions, develop shared assessments of what political interventions were necessary in order to achieve key policy, cultural and political wins, convene organizational leadership in order to debate and co-create a shared movement-wide strategy.

M4BL is an ecosystem of more than 150 Black-led organizations representing thousands of Black people from across the country that have come together with renewed energy, strategy, and purpose to articulate a common vision and agenda. Our ecosystem is united by core values and politics that seek to build an anti-capitalist, abolitionist, and Black queer feminist future. 

POSITION SUMMARY

M4BL is hiring an executive assistant to support the Field and Organizing Executive. The work of the Field and Organizing Executive is to support external programmatic work and ensure an effective, transformative movement-building model is adhered to across the ecosystem in addition to implementing the collectively determined vision and goals of the M4BL ecosystem. As a member of a 3-person executive team, The Field and Organizing Executive also manages and supports director-level staff and is responsible for developing and overseeing the field programs and organizing campaigns of the ecosystem. The Executive Assistant will work alongside the Field and Organizing Executive to ensure that systems and communication are moved with integrity, rapidness, and inside of our core values. 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  • Create systems to ensure effective time management and productivity for the Field and Organizing Executive 
  • Manage scheduling for Field and Organizing Executive
  • Draft, review and send communication on behalf of the Field and Organizing Executive
  • Organize and prepare for meetings, including gathering documents and attending to meetings' logistics 
  • Prioritize emails and respond when necessary
  • Coordinate travel arrangements
  • Maintain various records and documents for the Executive, including credit card reconciliation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A deep love for Black people 
  • 3-5 years of administrative experience with a preference for someone that also has some organizing experience.
  • Ability to work in high pace environments 
  • Self-starter and ability to work remotely 
  • Experience providing coordination for fast-moving projects
  • Understanding of Black movement work 
  • Politically grounded in understanding of M4BL's core ideologies: 
  • Anti Capitalist 
  • Black Feminism
  • Queer liberation 
  • Ability to work with a diverse grouping of people 
  • Ability to work well under pressure and high-stakes situations 
  • Time and project management skills; ability to pivot to meet current events and organizational needs 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word

  • Demonstrated commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice and Black liberation work

  • Skilled at time management and project coordination

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience working with social justice movement organizations is required
  • A degree is not required for this position but sound judgment, lived experience, and commitment to the liberation of Black people are necessary.
