Job Title: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education (SNAP-Ed) part-time researcher. The SNAP-Ed team is located in Latin American Association, Atlanta GA.  

Reports to: Managing Director of Family Stabilization and Well Being  

Status: Part-Time Temporary Position 

Location:  Dekalb Office

Position Purpose:  The Latin American Association (LAA) seeks a talented professional with research experience in nutrition and related subject-matter areas (nutrition, food safety, food resource management), ideal for undergraduate and graduate students, who are seeking a rewarding experience supporting the SNAP-ED program. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education (SNAP-Ed) is a federally funded grant program that supports evidence-based nutrition education and obesity prevention interventions and projects for persons eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) through complementary direct education, multi-level interventions, and community and public health approaches to improve nutrition. This is a contract part-time position of 20 hours with a pay rate of $21 per hour for 35 weeks.  

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Responsible to design, conduct and implement community needs assessment research around nutrition, food safety, and food resource management.  
  • Complete and pass the IRB in Human participants’ research ethics training, and compliance with research ethics protocols during the research process.  
  • Conduct 2 focus groups as part of the community needs assessment one in Dekalb county and One in Whitfield county, especially with Spanish speaker populations in GA. 
  • Collect, gather and analyze data conducted to develop a cultural competency nutritional curriculum.  

Qualifications:  

  • Fluency in English AND Spanish is REQUIRED (both written and oral)  
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Graduate Student with research experience in nutrition and related subject-matter areas (nutrition, food safety, food resource management). 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail  
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral  
  • Excellent computer skills and office administration skills  
  • Current Driver’s License
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy 
  • Sensitive to the needs of low-income and culturally diverse clientele
