Your Role
The Communications Coordinator will help execute a variety of coordinated strategies designed to help the organization reach its communications, branding, and media goals.
Main responsibilities include:
- Assist with administrative tasks, including capturing meeting notes, preparing materials, and assisting with webinars, press conferences, presentations and department briefings. Attend meetings for Families USA’s programs and projects. Maintains the Communications department production and editorial calendars. Assists with ad buys for programs and campaigns. Writes and edits content for Families USA’s communications portfolio, including online properties. Manages the Insights blog, including collaborating with other teams to develop and draft posts, scheduling topics, and working with the digital media associate to promote. Conceptualizes and produces content for FUSA’s digital and social media platforms, and assists with earned media outreach. Serves on planning committee for annual Health Action Conference, designing and executing on communications plan that includes promotion, earned media promotion and digital engagement.
Your Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, Political Science, Advertising, Multimedia Communications, Integrated Communications, English, Marketing, or a related field. 2-3 years’ professional experience post-graduation.
To perform successfully in this role, applicant should possess the specific knowledge, skills and abilities outlined below:
Knowledge (acquired information necessary to do the job, kind of knowledge required for the job)
- Basic knowledge and understanding of digital and earned media best practices, trends and legalities. Intermediate knowledge of creating and executing appropriate strategies and tactics that support department and organizational goals. Knowledge of best practices for engagement with varying audiences. Proficient knowledge of Associated Press style.
SKILLS (position-specific learned activity, generally gained through training)
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills. Excellent organizational skills with a high attention to detail and accuracy. Sound judgment, analytical, problem solving and project management skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse group of people. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Creative Suite is required.

- Ability to coordinate with external partners to obtain communications goals and support programs. Ability to interact with individuals from various levels of the organization. Ability to work independently and in close coordination with teams with very minimal supervision. Ability to manage shifting priorities in a rapid response environment. Ability to meet multiple deadlines and balance numerous projects while maintaining a perspective on short/long-term goals.
