Location: Fully Remote. 

Some travel will be required in accordance with BLMP COVID travel policies.

Status: Full-time, Exempt

About BLMP 

The Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project (BLMP) envisions a world where no one is forced to give up their homeland and where all Black LGBTQIA+ people are free and liberated. We build and center the power of Black LGBTQIA+ migrants to ensure the liberation of all Black people through Organizing & Base-building, Strategic Communications, and Viability & Sustainability. We are led by a directly impacted steering committee, staff and consultants, and operate organizing networks in New York City, DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia region), Minneapolis, California, and the South. We build power, community, and knowledge in the U.S., while challenging the role that the U.S. plays globally in creating the conditions that force us to leave our homes. 

Position Summary

BLMP is seeking a methodical Development Associate to work with our organization in administering and enhancing development tracking systems. Reporting to the Co-Director, the Development Associate will provide key support to BLMP as part of the Viability and Sustainability team. The Development Associate will support gift entry and processing, donor stewardship, event logistics, maintain accurate donor and grant information, and Development reporting. This position will also strengthen grant tracking systems, track deliverables, and administer timeline/deadline reminders for a robust list of diverse grants. 

The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills  and exceptional monitoring skills. The ideal candidate will also have experience maintaining relationships with donors, ensuring that tracking systems operate efficiently, and streamlining development and grant administration. We are looking for someone who is passionate about Black liberation, Black migrant justice and abolition of the carceral state; who is committed to centering and building the leadership of Black migrants and 1st generation Black people who identify as TGNCI, women, femmes, and/or who are living with disabilities. 

Responsibilities 

Institutional Grants Tracking

  • Evaluate current grant tracking systems
  • Develop, implement and document new grant tracking systems in collaboration with BLMP’s staff team, consultants, and steering committee
  • Manage grant timelines, track grant applications, deliverables (including reports) and grant documentations (i.e. grant agreements, ACH Transfer, etc)
  • Research new funding opportunities
  • Report to the steering committee
  • Coordinate and engage with current and future grant writers

Donor Tracking

  • Perform gift data entry, especially for large batches of gifts, including: inputting into the database, pulling payment reports from third party processors, collating and formatting reports
  • Assist with gift processing, including processing cancellations, credit card updates, temporary contacts, audits, alias review, and matching gift tracking
  • Assist with preparing reports for funders and steering committee 
  • Generate timely gift acknowledgements for all types of gifts, following existing or implementing new processes as needed
  • Maintain accurate donor records and information
  • Prepare financial documentation for Development department activities including check requests and contract agreements
  • Organize and maintain filing systems and storage for development activities
  • Field general inquiries for the Development team
  • Assist team members in various Development activities, including fundraising events, as needed

  • You have a proven ability to meet deadlines and are able to maintain accountability and to work independently, while playing a key role in a a cooperative and coordinated team;
  • You have demonstrated commitment to a broad range of social, racial, and economic justice issues and have an understanding of the multiple communities BLMP represents; 
  • You have strong organizational skills, like paying attention to detail and have a high degree of discretion; 
  • You understand how to deal with confidential and sensitive information with integrity.
  • You have a strong track record as an implementer who thrives on information tracking and sharing;
  • You hold a sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups in an organization, including staff, steering committee  members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and/or other supporters;
  • You have experience working on teams or in groups with people who have experienced multiple layers of systemic oppression. 

Knowledge and Skills

Required

  • Extensive nonprofit development or community fundraising experience, or a proven track record of developing and implementing grant tracking systems
  • Project management skills
  • Demonstrated data entry and computing proficiency (preferably with Google Suite)
  • Strong communication skills and experience in communicating with individual donors and institutional funders
  • Experience using development database systems or CRMs such as Salesforce, Every Action, Excel/Google Sheets or similar software

Desired

  • Familiarity with the funder landscape for Black, LGBTQIA+ and/or migrant-supporting organizations

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary is $66,000. Generous benefits include comprehensive health (medical, dental, vision, and FSA), matched retirement savings, three weeks vacation, sick and family leave, and sabbatical program.
