Rhode Island Communities for Addiction Recovery Efforts (RICARES) is a peer-led, non-profit recovery community organization (RCO) that organizes and mobilizes the more than 80 thousand Rhode Islanders in recovery from alcohol and other drug problems, and our families, friends and allies, to ensure that every Rhode Islander who has experienced a substance use problem is given the resources and services they need to recover and succeed, to live self-directed lives, and to reach their full potential.

 

Position: The organization is seeking a new CEO. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to lead efforts in advancing addiction recovery in the wonderful state of Rhode Island. As the face of RICares, this role serves the important function of cultivating relationships with community stakeholders, staff, funding agencies and the board, to unite Rhode Island in building attainable recovery pathways. The position will also lead strategic planning efforts to lay the groundwork for the organizations path over the next several years. Skills and Abilities Required:  

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction.
  • Attentive to detail and able to multi-task with accuracy and speed, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Facility with standard software applications and telecommunications is necessary.
  • Skill and comfort in public speaking and community partner engagement
  • Understanding the role and impact of social media. Facility with social media is a plus.
  • Capacity and desire to work with diverse constituencies, a commitment to the public interest and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to work a very flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
  • In-depth knowledge of the recovery community and recovery cultures and experience working with volunteers and community-based organizations.
  • A strong understanding of legislative processes at the state and local level

 

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Demonstrated experience in community organizing and/or advocating on recovery issues
  • Demonstrated experience as a program administrator
  • Demonstrated success with private and public sector fundraising and development
  • Strong communications skills – speaking and writing
  • Experience working with the media
  • Knowledge and experience with the SUD prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery systems in Rhode Island is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred

 

COMPENSATION: Base salary $75-85,000 with performance bonuses; generous benefit package and time off. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Works with the Board of Directors to fulfill RICARES mission and commitments
  • Establishes RICARES organizational strategies by contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction; determines functional objectives.
  • Serves as a primary advocate and thought leader for the Rhode Island recovery community Identifies actual and anticipated community networking requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential stakeholders
  • Maintains RICARES credibility by ensuring an understanding in the community of program services available; coordinating and cooperating with the executives and staffs of funding agencies, other sponsoring groups, and related service agencies
  • Ensures federal and state compliance, fiscal management Establishes RICARES operational strategies
  • Establishes RICARES financial strategies by initiating and participating in fundraising activities. Promotes the need for research and use of evidence-based strategies and activities that support best practices for a wide range of recovery pathways.
  • Ensures effective systems, policy and infrastructure are in place to manage and track RICARES budget.
  • Coordinates and lead budget reviews and periodic forecasting with RICARES Board.  Hires and manages staff. 
  • Establishes RICARES human resource strategies by determining accountabilities; communicating and enforcing values, policies, and procedures; implementing recruitment, selection, orientation, training, coaching, counseling, disciplinary, and communication programs; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation strategies.
  • Contributes to board effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-term issues to be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to Board deliberations; recommending options and courses of action, recruiting Board candidates.
  • Keeps board of directors informed by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends; remaining accessible; answering questions and requests.
