Job Details

About Paint Love: Paint Love is a nonprofit bringing extraordinary arts programming that empowers youth and strengthens communities. Our programs run all over Metro-Atlanta, prioritizing K-12 school-aged youth who have experienced trauma or live in under-resourced communities that do not have equitable access to high-quality arts education and mental health resources. Since 2014, Paint Love has served over 18,000 youth, working with over 100 community partners, hundreds of local artists, and thousands of volunteers. We envision a world where all young people have access to creative experiences that empower them to develop inner strength and imagine a future not limited by adversity. Art is our vehicle, but the soul of our work is showing children that their voice matters, their ideas are important, and their actions can make a difference in shaping the future.

Responsibilities and expectations of the role

Surrounding programming events:

  • Gather art supplies at Paint Love’s studio (in Decatur) before a programming event in the community (could be at a school, nonprofit, or on-site at Paint Love’s studio)
  • Be the point-person during the event for whomever is involved, including: teaching artists, volunteers, and partner org staff
  • Lead Paint Love’s trauma-informed model during the program (including regulation exercises, reflection, sharing)
  • Oversee classroom management and time-keeping for the project, including:
    • Help the teaching artist (if applicable) set up
    • Supply management
    • Facilitate clean up
    • Basic reporting
    • Clean + return supplies to the studio and put them away within a few days of the event

Other duties:

  • Attend staff meetings as needed
  • Read and respond to Slack and email messages in a timely manner
  • Possible additional hours to help with marketing and fundraising events or during summer programming

Why work for Paint Love?

Paint Love strives to be a progressive workplace-  accepting and embracing difference, and actively committed to creating a culture of radical, shared wellness.

  • Collaboration + communication:  Responsibility and expectations will be clearly laid out for both transparency and support. Paint Love strives to adapt to both internal and external needs. We are committed to creating an environment safe for everyone to be open and honest. It is your responsibility to be proactive in addressing any concerns and to actively participate in communication.
  • Learning + growth: Paint Love is committed to fostering passion and growth in our staff team. Communication is always open regarding the duties of your role.
  • Autonomy + time management: Paint Love's staff are able to work with some autonomy. It is your responsibility to communicate with your team, manage your time, and attend required meetings. Communication early and often is required for expectations to be met and support to be given.
  • Balance + wellness: Paint Love is scrappy, passionate, and hard working but does not expect staff to over-extend themselves -- including working unreasonably long hours or buying into hustle/grind culture. Paint Love strives to create a work environment focused on self-care and wellness because we recognize that our work is challenging. We seek to strike a balance of work, play, and rest. It is your responsibility to engage in community and personal wellness.

Compensation

  • $15/hour
  • W2 employee, bi-monthly direct deposit payroll
  • Eligible to enroll in 401K retirement savings plan

Desired Qualifications

  • Communicative: Paint Love staff uses Slack and email to stay in communication since we aren’t always on site together.
  • Creative: No specific arts skills or experience required, but a creative, growth-mindset is a must!
  • Trustworthy + on-time : Our partners rely on Paint Love to be celebratory and honoring of the diverse populations they serve, which means being kind, respectful, and reliable.
  • Professional experience in education, mental health, and/or the arts is a plus.

People who thrive on our staff also tend to be:

  • Invested: Sure, it’s still a job, but the work we do is personal for our team of artists, educators, mental health professionals, caregivers, and creatives - many of whom have experienced their own trauma and know how essential the ability to understand and regulate emotions are and how powerful creativity and imagination are in processing the past and building a better future. We work hard, but don’t worry, we’re not about hustle culture and we care about wellbeing.
  • Curious: Because our team consists of all kinds of folks, you’ve gotta be willing to hear someone else out and approach others’ ideas with a sense of curiosity. We respect each other but also push one another to grow and think differently.
  • Committed: We’re hoping you’ll want to stick around and grow with us. There’s always a chance you might get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend a year in Timbuktu that you can’t pass up, but we are looking for someone who thinks they might want to stay with us for a bit. Transitioning to full-time or growing in your role with Paint Love in other ways is something we’d always be excited to explore if things are going well.

Commitment to Diversity

Paint Love encourages individuals of all backgrounds and identities to apply.

Since it is our goal to make art and creative experiences, and the positive impact that comes with them, accessible to ALL youth, we recognize and are committed to the importance of building a staff, volunteer and artist community, and board of directors that is representative of and connected to those we serve in every way. Paint Love does not discriminate against any applicant because of race, ethnicity, color, religion, culture, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, physical abilities, age, parental status, and socio-economics.

Application

To apply, please send a resume, availability, and cover letter to Laura Shaw, Executive Director at  laura@paintlove[dot]org and we’ll be excited to talk more to see if you might be a great fit for our team!
